Deep on the top or Deep on the bottom. Its the same recording for either copy of You Said (well I have never heard the difference, for 1 she holds the note for no longer on every recording I have played) so its just a B-side varient then?.

  • If no scans can someone confirm the flips and numbers for the one with Deep at top and Deep at the bottom.

Can anyone confirm the dead wax details on this record as SK4M 1963 it is The Deep at the top copy I need them for. Deep at the bottom reads TK4M -1696 - - 1 DP003 TK4M -1697--1 both R so this would make the record a 1965 and 66 release.

Had them both Tony, and have looked at my label scans but unfortunately I can't make out the matrix numbers, sorry.

Hi Tony, The Matrix Reads as follows on DP001 SK4M - - 1962 - 1 and on DP002 SK4M - - 1963 - 1 Hope this helps!! atb John

They actually have them printed on the label as I have found out but bot the R that denotes the pressing plant location.

Have you ever noticed a difference in the tracks Quin like the length altho one says 2.24 and the other 2.29  thats all quiet strange cause the records 2.40 :dash2:

No, I was told previous to owning them that the singer held the note longer on one, I was worried that I would buy the duff one. Obviously that rumour must have come from the duration times printed on the labels. I have listened to both 45's many times, and they sound the same to me.

Was "Deep Sounds" at 118 Chauncey Street ?

Er, yes mate, see the label scans inpost number 7

Many Thanks for the help Quin, that clears it up quiet nicely and i find out that its a 2 issue thing via the RCA pressing plant in :D

I thought there was two takes? One where she holds the note and the record fades out as she does. The other she holds the note yet when she stops the backing carry on with "You Said You Love Me"for another 15 seconds or so. Other than that they sounded the same to me as well.

If this is a top Deep as it shows, I have played it against a bottom Deep and they are the same..

Remeber you had a few sound files Chalky a few years ago but I can't find any difference, a bit like the LA Shawn Collins re-mix green copy

I've got both recorded, pretty sure they are the same, but I will have a listen when I get the chance.

Thanks - I saw the labels, that's what made me ask the question. As there's no street listed at all on the "top" scan, it didn't necessarily mean the address was in Chauncey St. The second "bottom" scan is clearly Chauncey St. but I wondered if they just omitted the street name and number in the first scan, or was there some relocation going on within Brooklyn.

At the end of the day, it wasn't all that important, it was just seeing the two together that prompted my curiosity.

I'm sure that Deep Sounds was indeed at 118 Chauncey St., but just wondered if anyone knew for sure (eg. old photos etc.)

Cheers

Mick

Tony, there are two recordings.

The YouTube clip is of the other release ('Deep' at the bottom) and not of the one shown ('Deep' at the top.

The difference is near the end ...'Deep' at the bottom has the backing singers repeating the line , 'til the end of time' clearer and it goes on a little longer, as I recall. I prefer the 'Deep' at the bottom mix as that's the one I owned/grew up with.

The backing singers sing "You said you love me" (or thats what it sounds like to my lug oles) after she stops holding that note at the end, about 12 seconds or so longer, mentioned it earlier. The other one I know the record fades on the held note, or as soon as she stops holding the note.

Late Yate early Stafford "Sweethearts" cover up for Dave Thorley.

True, plus the clearer, ''till the end of time'.

Think I paid £40 for my copy many moons ago!

Hi Tony, Dave is right!! I have just played DP001/DP002 DEEP at the top and it is a slightly different take than the one you have posted although it shows the DP001/DP002 record it must be the DP001/DP003 take as she does appear to hold the note longer but ends it very abruptly where as on the DP001/DP002 it is faded out as I think chalky mentioned earlier!! so yes definetely two slightly different takes.Hopes this helps. Atb John.

Yes Tony, It's Showing DP001/ DP002 but playing DP001/ DP003!! Atb John

The take where she holds the note but the backing singers are still there when she ends. This take shorter than the other one I have, this is 2:24 compared to I think 2:33 on the other???

They both have that funny talking after the first You Said You Love Me after the held note.

The only difference I can her is 3 "You Said You Loved Me's" after the note against 4 on the Bottom Deep.

Many thanks Chalky for the sound files.

Thats about it in a nutshell Tony!!! Atb John.

Just played my 2 and she holds the note 2 seconds longer on the Deep at the bottom press.
