September 18, 201212 yr Think these were done in the 70's for budget label compilation albums: I had a version of Um Um Um Um Um Um on a compilation album (though they called it Curious MInd for some reason)
September 19, 201212 yr That has "much newer" sound than the '60s. It surely doesn't sound like Johnny Pate or Riley Hampton's '60s arranging, nor the Columbia musicians they used. It sounds like a '70s arranger and band trying to "copy" the original.
September 20, 201212 yr It sounds as though it was done at the same session as the Gusto 45 with remakes of "Um, um, um" and "Monkey time", issued in 1979
October 21, 201212 yr I've just found a reference to a 4 track EP put out by Gusto in 2008, including "The matador". You can hear a preview in iTunes - I'm sure it's this version. Nick
October 21, 201212 yr It doesn't even sound like it could be from '79, it has digital synth. It could have been recorded in '79 and the synth track changed later.
June 23, 20168 yr Does anyone know if this version of "The matador" exists in a physical format? Vinyl preferred, naturally, but I'd take a CD if that's all there is Edited June 23, 20168 yr by nickinstoke
