I have paid duty and Post Office charges a few times in the past, but received a record package today declared at $7. That is what I paid at a Buy It Now price and that is what was declared. On the packet was a yellow sticker stating Customs Examination, which said the packet had been opened, examined and resealed.

Just wondering if many more people out there in the soulful UK have experienced similar. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the practice, just never come across it before.

I've had a few opened and searched like that.

One was a few Ebony magazines, they obviously thought they were jazz mags.

And I've had several record packages from Jamaica opened and searched.

I saw something, don't know if it was on TV on the internet, but there were photos. It was a jamaican weed smuggling ring where the weed was dried and pressed into 12" discs and then put inside regular LP covers.

Ingenious! But they must have stunk, surely..

yeah, it looks like they probably thought of the idea when they were high and didn't think it through all the way. plus i can't imagine that is "high quality" as described in the news report.

Had a suitcase opened and checked in the US when I had travelled on an internal flight , they put a note inside !!

That was about 5 years ago and US Air would not let me lock my cases , don't know if it's still the same as i have not taken an internal flight

don't check anything with any electronics or obvious valuables. Carry on as much as possible. TSA steals everything, super shady. I was at a friend's house and he had all these video game systems, cameras, etc. I was like "what the hell is this?" He said his friend worked for the TSA and his friend gave his wife a gift card that he stole out of a suitcase and she got arrested and put in jail. His friend dumped the rest of the evidence (all the stolen stuff) onto him. This isn't like an isolated person's actions, apparently it's pretty common for them to steal from you, and I've even heard of them taking digital cameras and then putting the memory cards back in the bag, I guess as a favor to the person so they don't lose their photos.

In Britain they take the memory card and put the camera back in the bag

I used to get alot of parcels opened by Customs in the early 70s.

Mind you, most of them came from Simon Soussan Did Customs & Excise know something we didn't
