:hatsoff2:Hi All I have noticed that the music section on eBay is full of novelty gold disc's, also many label scans of rare UK records, as a long time record collector, I'm in two minds about these items, at first I accepted them for what they were, novelty reproes of demo discs such as one of the BEATLES #1s for example, as know one would feel coned if they were given such a disc as a present, more likely to think they are tacky but could be put on a wall as a joke, however the people behind there manufacture have gone from a few titles to now producing all sorts of labels from $TATESIDE TAML MOTOWN well most of the EMI labels that issued psyche rare soul northern soul progressive rock and more...
As I said I'm a collector and used to handling UK records, but it was not long ago when scanners were being made for home use, the same concept was used to fake a issued disk into a rare demo, and passed of as original catching many people out who thought they had got the real thing cheap,
I'm sure that there are still many people about who have what they think is a rare record at home as a investment for the future, and one day be devastated when they try to sell it, this situation arose in the early 8ts when some people who had small northern soul collections went to cash them in, only to give the dealer who was looking at them a ear bashing, thinking that the dealer was trying to con them,
In recent times the market for rare MOD/PSYCHE records has had over 100 top rare records pressed up with fake UK labels,
Bringing this topic up has nothing to do with the company that sells on eBay the Novelty Gold discs, as I have tested them out if they were dodgy, however that's not to say someone could not porches a label and paste it on a disc and sell it as an original,
The best tip I can give is that no UK record that is of interest of the rare soul scene, has sold enough records to make a gold silver or any other kind of metal, they only sold a few plastic ones, and beware if you are offerd a Darrel Banks "open the door to your heart" LONDON ISSUE, or the FIRST CHOICE "this is the house" PYE ISSUE or DEMO,
What do you think? DAVE K
