25 great tunes from Steve - we struggle to get Steve on at the RAFA club due to his dj'ing commitments on Tyneside but bet your bottom dollar he'll be coming back in 2014. Great fellah & thanks to his missus Kim for allowing him to buy these $5.00 records, Thanks Kim & Steve.

Paul Ackley and special guest dj John Parker finished the night off from 10.30pm to about 12.45am. Top drawer rare soul was the order of the day (night) from these 2 prime collectors / dj's but didn't write the sets down - post them here guys please.

All in all a great night with punters from Manchester, Bolton, Leeds and Burnley as well as the usual local suspects and a good end to 2013. Npost-14968-0-30354200-1387712005_thumb.jext soul night at the Rafa club will be the 1st February 2014 - line up to be announced on Soul Source events page soon.

Thanks for your support folks, without you we'd not have this venue, it's hard work keeping it all going, but worth it.

Merry Xmas - Paul, Ian, Paul and Kev.

Last night's affair really replaces the one we should have on the first Saturday in January but no one has any money left on what will be the 4th Jan' 2014. We did this last year with John Parker and Tony Hatfield as guests and it paid off so we'll do it every year by having 2 soul nights in December. February 1st will be the first soul night in 2014 and it will be the first Saturday of every month following that. Can John Parker and Paul Ackley put up their play lists please as they were spectacular to say the least, both guys bounced off each other to perfection and it was funny to hear one guy at the bar say "that's the first £100 record I've heard in the last 2 hours as they've all been nearly £1000+" The record was Kenny Shepard's "What Difference does it make" as John played it winding down the double decking finishing with Johnnie Mae Matthews, "I have no choice" by Paul and David Thomas "I'll always need you by my side" from John, which incidentally is the last record always played at the club by Paul Ackley.

So folks - February 1st is the next one in 2014, will be good to see some new faces.

regards Paul.

Would be great to see you at the club Chalky, you'll love the place - intimate small venue with punters with the most impeccable taste in everything soulful. great music to boot, 3 minutes from the A1, free parking and £3.00 entry with a free cd of the main guests playlists. beers cheap too.

see you in 2014 - Paul.

I'd like to thank everyone for turning up and showing support for our efforts (and the dj's especially the travelling ones) and also for the donation of monies for a raffle that was carried out on the night for local cancer support etc. Thanks for everyone who gave a little in the way of prizes but more thanks to those who gave a lot in the way of money for the tickets. £100.00 was raised and a donation of £25.00 from the door monies which made Corinne Aspel very happy as she and her friends have now raised approx. £1800.00 for the local cancer charities. Thanks folks for everything.

I haven't mentioned much about Martin McAullife and Neil Taylor for their DJ'ing on the night as I was awaiting the playlists etc. but many thanks guys for your up front effort and music approach plus your friends who showed much support to your music and the whole night in general. Neil and Martin's sets were 100mph soul / funk and is a welcome change / addition to any soul night and many people on the night told me how much they liked it - so the way forward methinks. It was evident in the playlists from John Parker and Paul Ackley that they also dug out their more obscure heavy hitting 45's to compliment Neil and Martin's set.

On the whole a great night and thanks to everyone who contributes month in month out in to deliver the RAFA  Serious Shades of Soul, soul club.

Final thank you's go to Pat and Arnie of the Royal Air Force Association for allowing us to run our monthly soul venue and I know they thank you all for the bar takings alone as over the last few years you've all kept this building alive financially and also contributing to the RAF benevolent fund.

Thanks folks - Merry xmas.

Fantastic night at the RAFA

Had previously always clashed with York Soul Club

Now the dates for that look like changing will make it a more regular trip
