back in the day..certainly when i was doing the allniters etc..very few if any unreleased tunes were on the decks or playlists.Since of course, many top sounds have been unearthed. So which stand out for you?..criteria being unreleased at the time (of recent recording or generally at that time) these mainly being the ones that have lain in archives or vaults or produced as limited acetates, tests, not demos that were pressed to precede an intended release. Many now appear on CD to supplement existing recordings and of course the Kent label has unearthed some great stuff.

one of my faves is Maurice Williams-'Look my way' which appeared as an LP only on Kent. So be it northern, crossover,or deep..or whatever whats a really worthy tune thats eventually seen the light of day?

  • Torture.....Maxine Brown. Can't quite believe that I first heard it in 1985 and it still blows me away now. There are not enough superlatives for this.

  • Originals "Suspicion" and the Temptations "Forever In My Heart" two of the very best.

  • Little Ann "What Should I Do" simply brilliant.

A few years back I was enjoying a coffee with Gigi (The Charmains) wife of the late Herman Griffin / Lewis

when out of the blue she mentioned that she originally sang I need you like a baby (Andrea Henry)

and had it on a funny metal disc coved in vinyl, but her husband backed the second version by Andrea

We search that house and garage but with no joy.

Who knows one day she may find it and then it may take its place on a thread like this.

Its that rare none of us have heard it (to the best of my knowledge)

Great story Mick,  Herman Griffin's Dance Time on the Groovesville cd, would fit in with the kind of Northern tracks keeping the dance floors busy at the moment! Do you know if Dance Time got a release. Rod
