Genuine question. I’ve seen the term ‘up front’ in a few threads and presume it’s used like oldies, modern, crossover etc. Are there specific venues and DJ’s? What tunes would be classed as examples of this genre and are any of them considered as ‘classic’ up front sounds or would that be an oxymoron?

Upfront ffs lol Going by venues using this term it would appear to be the not good enough 'funky edged' stuff they're referring to? Absolutely not for me, no way no how. Total bobbins My

The new release forum on the Essential Modern Soul site is called 'UPFRONT'.

Think that about covers it for me.

It is new or newish for what ever particular scene or sub scene, be that a new discovery or a new release.      FFS why do people make such hard work of something so simple.

As Nev says just get on with it, go where you enjoy going and if it doesn't float your boat leave it to those that it does.

Some people enjoy bathing in stagnant water & never dream of leaving their own little pond simply because they would be lost.

Maybe it just covers sounds not played at Wigan, The Wheel etc or if played didn't stay on the playlists very long.

Up Front, Current Plays, Bangers, Floaters etc, all good phrases to explain what sort of do the promoters are putting on. People then know it's not going to be your run of the mill Same Ol Same Ol tunes that have been belted out time & time again over the years but progressive Dj's with a free reign as to what THEY want to play so like/open minded folk can come along & have a great time without any narrow minded musical restrictions. Put together by a cross section of DJ's specialising in different styles/sub genres covering a wide range to satisfy the needs of their particular club. Could be Funk Edged, R&B, Latin, Boogaloo, Modern Soul, Lesser known Oldies, New Discoveries, Rare Soul, Deep Soul, Uptempo, Midtempo whatever really. Who cares as long as it's Soul related in some way or form. If you want to hear a fair selection of tunes new to your ears then this is the kind of promotion you should look out for. In other words UP FRONT !!!
