I think it's well know that Berry Gordy snuck off to LA to get tracks recorded with the Wrecking Crew from the mid-sixties onwards, (some of the Supremes stuff had a very LA feel; The Happening, In and Out of Love etc) before moving to Los Angeles in 1972.

My question is this:

Do we know the final Motown records that were recorded in Detroit?  Has this been documented?

I think it's a jr Walker session...about 74....the studios were kept open.....just about. (most had gone in 72)

I think Ralph Terrana's book might mention details..I'll check

Jazz pianist Gene Harris (of The Three Sounds) recorded his "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" album for Blue Note at the Detroit studios in June 1973

The last session WAS in 1974, and I do believe it was a Junior Walker session (or, at least, Walker's was one of the very last).

The Undisputed Truth  - Face To Face With The Undisputed Truth (1972), although this isn't the last record by any means, it shows that the Funk Bros where still active in there lates 60's line up.
