If I had to choose one soul compilation CD that sums up everything I love about soul music it would have to be "Masterpieces of Modern Soul" on Kent label, all 22 tracks are absolute gems, which compilation does it for you?

It would be one I made myself :thumbsup:

Two compilations from the early 1980s completely changed my head about soul music: the Lost Soul series on Epic and Pure Soul on Kent.

Picked this up in States a few years back : Wardell Quezerque "Sixty Smokin' Soul Senders" double CD on Funky Delicacies a division of Tuff City Records.

Jolly good listen :thumbsup:ps 20 page booklet also and very informative, label scans etc....i love really well written booklets, think Kent always just about nail this department.

I did at one time collect kent and Charly L.P's, Charly's Rare Soul Uncovered vol.3 is superb and i do spin it alot at home, a great track on the L.p is Roscoe Shelton...... you're the dream, which is an unreleased ss7 track.

Fav' Kent L.P is Kent Stax, loads of great Southern stax/volt stuff, even has Margie Joseph " one more chance " on it, plus a nice smooth mid tempo track by Jimmy Hughes..It's all up to you...........Mmmm nice !

Fav C.D......Urrr..... Dave Godin's Deep soul treasures.....oh yes !

For me has to be the 60's UK Atlantic LP "This is soul" the best 14/6d I ever spent!

Excellent track I have that on a Roscoe Shelton (charley) LP..

Funny they used this tune in the Blue Juice film.

Must confess to liking our own too, but one of the best NS comps I've had lately was the Northern Soul of Dore CD. Excellent !

Motown Chartbusters Volume 3.

That under one arm, a bottle of cider under the other, got you into every party going.

More recently keep returning to Soothers & Movers, every track a mid tempo delight.
