As far as I'm aware they don't have regular soul do's there, Mike - this was a one-off in association with BBC Radio Newcastle for Children In Need. It wasn't 100% Modern - the main event was in the ballroom (I think it's called) and the music between 7-10pm was a mix of motown/commercial soul/northern played by Paul Wappat as per the Radio Newcastle show he hosts on a Friday night. After 10pm the Northern DJs took over until 1am. The 70's-present stuff was in another room. Not necessarily a night for the purists or the diehards but lots raised and for a good cause...might get a few venturing out to the local do's as a result which is a plus. Decent venue too.
