This great song "last bus from Tupelo" by Frankie Newsome is a story of a poor young man from the rural south who goes to the urban north to seek his fortune. Instead, he gets taken advantage of, used/abused there. Do folks know of any other songs from this lyrical genre? (poor rural blacks that get taken advantage of in cities like Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, etc).

Thanks!

It was a (long) while before I realised Gladys Knight's 'Midnight Train To Georgia' was about this.  Her man must have had a really shit time in the North to want to go back to Georgia during that period.

Junior Walker & the All Stars version of Way Back Home is about nostalgia for the South, it's one of my favourite songs
