January 24, 20214 yr I thought Richard came over really well - obviously super-knowledgable, but also enthusiastic and articulate. His choice of music was well judged too and not the usual Frank Wilson etc. Johnny Walker also seemed genuinely interested in the music and what Richard had to say.
January 24, 20214 yr I agree, Richard came over really well on Johnny's show. No one should be shocked that Johnny seemed so interested in the subject though as he was one of the top pirate radio DJ's who played all the new soul sounds back in the mid 60's. He also used to hang out in Soul City Record Shop to get to hear the latest import soul sounds
January 24, 20214 yr Think his choice of tracks was dictated by the theme of the show so all 70s tunes. Interesting that his version on how nighters started at Wigan doesn’t have any mention of Russ!
January 25, 20214 yr Good point - the show is called Sounds of the 70s after all! Nevertheless, Richard also managed to avoid any poor 70s records in his choices.
January 25, 20214 yr A nice selection of tracks including The Prophets, Jackie Wilson, Betty Swann and N F Porter. Richard shared his expertise of the Northern scene between tracks, coming across well as he always does. However, on the subject of the Casino, Dickie OBE skirted around the R topic, failing to mention him, and ignoring the invitation he took up to form the best Northern Soul partnership I can recall. Richard, I call upon you to give credit where it is due and move on...
