Been a long time viewer of this site and forum, and have benefited greatly reading various threads here, discovering more than a few new to me records.ย I have had a longstanding love of soul music, and was prompted to sign up following posts on the Terry Callier thread - I knew a little of his work but was blown away by "I don't want to see myself"!ย
So background to my soul journey - parents had some motown and chubby checker records so that was a good start, but in the early 1980s joined the Mod revival as a teenager, and soon found my way into the northern and 6Ts soul scene - inferno singles (sorry!) and Kent albums (still being played today!). Visited Carnaby St most weekends to buy records and clothes in the old flea market.
In around 84-85 used to frequent a place called the Brewery Tap in Barking where a mix of 6Ts and modern soul was played, records like Charles Johnson never had a love so good, Lets spend some time together - Larry Houston, On the Beach - Chairmen of the Board. Attended a couple of events at the 100 club, but dipped out of the scene around 85-86, nevertheless retained the love for soul to this day, and recently started buying singles again after a long long break -ย can't pretend to have the musical knowledge of a lot of the people on the forum but wanted to join anyway and share in the discussion a bit rather than reading from the sidelines.
