From recent compilation, Eccentric soul: The Prix Label comes the best 45 the Columbus, Ohio imprint failed to release."Wait A Minute" is the same version issued on the CD, while the instrumental flip is only available on the deluxe LP version. Both cuts are must haves in any self respecting northern soul lover's collection, and certifiable future monsters on that scene.
Killer double sider! Stomping and hard hitting northern funk from Eddie Ray in the form of "Wait A Minute", full of energy, rhythm and killer vocals. Flip to the instrumental which slows the pace down ever so slightly and replaces the vocals with some wicked horns, brilliant!
Limited 500 release 45, previously un-released PRIX track, this is must buy, if you want to hear it give us a call 01745 334 811.
The Rollers - Knocking at the Wrong Door £6.50
The Deep City label, a grip of tapes turned up at famed Miami producer Willie Clarke's ex-wife's house. From the second we heard this unreleased Deep City girl group, we knew it had to be available on 45, for no other purpose than to file it in our own boxes. "Knockin' At The Wrong Door" borrows heavily from the Jackson Five's "I Want You Back," while the flip is a nice ballad in the Honey Cone vein.
Ooooh now we're talking. Rare deep Miami soul from The Rollers, that was only discovered after Numero's compilation work for the label. Both sides are killers, but the pick has to be "Knocking At The Wrong Door" which is sugar coated female Croosover/funk at its best. "One Little Piece" is a lower paced ballad, but still amazing. I tell you what, I reckon this girl had her heartbroken once or twice from the sounds of these!
M.A.S.O - POON THANG THUMP part 1 & 2 £6.50
A year after finishing Eccentric Soul: The Bandit Label, a Chicago collector approached us about a heretofore unknown 45 on Arrow Brown's increasingly mysterious imprint. Only two copies are known of the Michigan Avenue Sound Orchestra's retardedly funky instrumental "Poon Tang Thump Parts 1 & 2," and it was crushing us not to have them available. Finally, Bandit completists can get some sleep!
All 3 limited to 500 copies and housed in a gorgeous two-tone Eccentric Soul sleeve for easy filing.
