Just bought a copy of 'Do I Make Myself Clear' by Etta James and Sugar Pie Desanto on blue label US Cadet (5519). Looking on Manship's it was was released Chess (8025) and Argo (black) (5519) why was it released on all three labels? This is also the case for many other 60's track's from the Chess group.

I always thought that Cadet was their 'progressive' label, Argo was more jazz orientated, and Chess was for mainstream Soul and Blues releases?

Not 100% sure on this, but ... The Argo label was renamed Cadet after a problem with the classical Argo label about who had rights to use the name. That's why the release numbers are the same. The original 45 was on the Argo label. The Chess release # is out of sequence with the rest of the releases and is probably a reissue. Hope this helps.

Close - the Chess 8025 is actually the UK release, the first press of which is on a black label with gold print.
