it worked for me! I used to love these guys and loved the fact they had their own record label. thumbsup.gif

The kids at school thought I was a bit strange listening to these and The Who when they were all into spandaux ballet and the like!

it worked for me!

And me. Superb!

Jerry Dammers know to spin a few at Crossfire. Another top lad!

Fantastic band, saw them at Coventry tiffs in 79 with the Selector & Dexys midnight runners.

Terry Hall has to be one of the coolest front men any band has ever had.

Last i've heard is that its 6 of them talking but Dammers still won't sit down with Hall :)

Hope they do get it together again, although a large part of me remembers the In The Studio years which, lets be honest, weren't very good....

Happy days....wasn't too sure when Jerry pulled out the pistol whether it was real or not. I took the black and white check bridge photos in about 5 minutes - just down the road from Jerry's Poodle Parlour flat  The shot of Terry on top of the van is at Cheltenham (I think) or it could be Wolverhampton...and the one of him in front of the 'banner' was the Nashville Rooms (now 3 Kings) - the 'na' by his right shoulder is the end of Joanna...that's me, that is - Jo

I saw them at Wolverhampton Civic just before that gig you went to, be about september 79 I think, but the support was The Selector and Madness - Madness left the tour and Dexys replaced them. Can you imagine, 3 bands like that for I think it was £4.

I wasn't an especial fan of the Specials - they made some decent Pop songs and enlightened some of the youth to proper Ska and Reggae (as other 2-Tone and related bands did)...

Exactly right Zap, Island released three brilliant albums due to 2 Tone's success, Intensified volumes 1 & 2 and the incredible Catch The Beat which was mainly rocksteady. Those must be three of the finest compilations ever released.

Let's have Ady come on and tell everyone about the time that he acidentally threw a pint of piss in my face as a Specials gig at the 'Nashville'. Real piss, that is, not lager or some other woman's drink...

It was the same night that we both agreed that Madness (who were supporting) were the worst band ever, and stood no chance of becoming successful.

Bit of a 'whoops' night all round, really...

TONE

PS The only other time that I've seen a band and decreed to be them to be the "worst band ever with no chance of becoming successful" was when I saw Oasis at the 100 club in the early 90s. Am I a Pop Picker or what!

I just played a Specials CD this weeknd first time in many years, awesome.

Used to go to loads of the two tone concerts at Tiffanys, it's now a library... :D

Saw: Specials, Madness, Gods Toys, Selector, Swinging Cats...can't remember anymore now.

It got a bit mad one night when a fight broke out and glasses flew everywhere.

I used to go over with my older cousins as my mother would never have let me over to Coventry, it wasn't long after the pub bombings.

We used to have to jump on the milk train to get home.

Good job I'm more sensible now... :shades:

Not a bad judge, Tony - given that Oasis were (are?) musically hapless and sterile...
