Hi,i'm off on holiday soon based in the Algarve.Just a thought while i'm there.....is it worth a trip up to Lisbon and check out any vinyl strongholds. Are there any?

Any of you guys/gals got any stories or info on vinyl hunting in Portugal?

Has it already been raided by our Spanish friends or Dave Moore?

If its not worth it,don't know what i'll do to while away the time :) .

I was in Portugal for the Euros.

The Algarve is a very boring 4 hour train journey, or a very boring 3.5 hour drive from Lisbon.

I wasnt particularly looking for any vinyl shops so that may be why I didnt see one in the 3 weeks I was there.

Sorry to be all doom and gloom. On the bright side, if you drive, it has a nice bendy bridge as you drive in from the south....but you have to pay a toll LOL I give up.

Kev if your in Albufeira look out for the Cavern sports Bar in the old town there always playing northern soul and across the road is the best local restaurant bar none and because it's out of the main square the prices are right, check out Wild Bill's on the front near the new escalators they play northern and have a wooden dance floor! Mind you it gets a bit hot out there to dance this time of year.

Off to Albufeira myself next week whereabouts is that sports bar and whats the restaurant named , so I can try them out cheers Jenko

Hi 'jenko'

When you are coming into the old town from the strip the road is a one way down hill street with a tight left hand bend at the bottom (it's the only way to the old town) the sports bar is on the left just before the bend, The restaurant is on the right and called 'o'manjar believe me it is very good, you cant book a table but when you get there and if it is full tell them your going across to Peter at the Caver and when the next table comes available they come and let you know so you get to listen to Northern Soul have a beer and the football on the big screen can't be bad!

No matter where you end up mate have a good one!

I only wish Soul Source was around when I went there, at least two more places of interest to visit in the Algarve, apart from old sardine fisheries and safaris in old jeeps looking at dried up river beds and the odd cocoa plant......sorry but not into golf or Portugal....... :P

SORRY Wilxy, but the question wasn't wether you like Portugal or not.

IMHO,the slowed down pace of life, climate, food, people and history is why i love Portugal.Always seem to be there when either World Cup is on or Euro.

Surely its got to be better than Mansfield or Newport? :wicked:

Your'e right about golf tho',bloody frustrating.

I was in Albufeira about 20 years ago. I don't remember too many places that played Soul, cos it was well before the Internet era. If you drive up through the Alentejo region, you'll see some lovely towns where the accommodation, food etc is much cheaper than down on the coast. Lisboa is simply great, vinyl or no vinyl. I too think Portugal is fab, it's only about 30 mins drive from where I live, so I'm a little biased perhaps. Might be worth a trawl on the fotolog site for Lisbon based mods, soulfolk etc; You never know, the Iberian peninsula constantly throws up surprises. :-)

Macca.

Hi Steve, not far from Albufeira, about 5 miles in fact. Was more interested in record hunting really than going to a nite (the missus thinks we're "away" on holiday  ).

Might check it out tho'.

Will i need my bags, vest and all nighter bag?.What's their TALC policy? :shades: .

Anyway, looks like Portugal may get thru to the EURO Final,so will be watching that on the 29th.
