I'm sitting here preparing stuff for a forthcoming auction, and when I pulled out the swedish picture sleeved Tamla Motown release of Edwin Starr's "Stop Her On Sight" and played it I realised that it's a different take or mix than on the original US Ric Tic release!

I'll post up a soundclip of it below.

Is this version known?

Was it released anywhere else?

Any info would be nice.

(by the way, to my big surprise I also just found a version of Pic & Bill's "Sad World Without You" recorded by swedish schlager/schmaltz-singer Tommy Korberg back in the late 60s... extremely unexpected!!! )

Sounds like a much rougher version than the normal release - demo'ing it perhaps? I love his vocal on that, would love to hear it matched to the other backing track....

The piano parts are way down in the mix, its almost like it was sent on a stereo master and someone forgot to turn up one side, bizzarre.

The stuff you find Sebastian, I'm amazed. I've had this record before. I never realised that the mix was different. I can't remember it being that different. It seems like a mistake when they made the record back in Sweden...? Maybe that is why it is rare. I've only ever seen the copy that I had.

To my ears the sax is a lot different too

Pretty obvious what's happened here, like someone says - they haven't turned half of the channels up, that's why half of it is missing! Where's the drums for a start?

Yes, probably a mono/stereo drop-out issue as some of you have suggested. I'm quite amazed that they let it out though, someone must've checked the testpressing before it got released. Oh well, an interesting item nonetheless and indeed as Sammy mentioned, hard to find here in Sweden.

I once had an Inez & Charlie Foxx / Tightrope on a Euro label with a very similar loss of half the mix. As with SOS, it sounded so different it sounded like a completely different recording,
