Sorry but I dont get it with B W . I ve only seen him live once and he was an awful, sulky, jumped up knob and had forgotten, we, his public had paid £30 each to see him. It s my grudge and I m holding it.

Actually, plenty of soul people deserve it more, but it's always nice to see one of 'ours' get an accolade from 'them' isn't it? Even a massively over-rated one...

I don't think there's any connection between BW and Elvis, other than the fact that Bobby was still a studio musician at American in Memphis when Elvis was recording there in '69, and they may have nodded to each other in the hallway.

He did, however, play on various tracks on Joplin's 'Pearl' album, I think. I've tried my best to avoid her ghastly screeching for decades, but would I be right in thinking she actually recorded a Womack song ('Trust Me', maybe?) on that album?

Well i suppose you could get ino a debate about who deserves it more,its good however that his talent has been regognised,this is obviously a massive thing in the states good article in USA today ill paste up later.Everyone who has seen him has differnt experiences of the man to be honest Catriona ,he invited well known Newton Aycliffe lads backstage at one of his gigs ,no adulation just honest down to earth chats ,pictures,and he appeared humble then.

I dont know what their criteria is for the induction,certainly not record sales in this instance,sonwriting ability definetly,im a Womack addict so perhaps a bit bias but his Unted Artiste period and ofcourse the poet to me take some beating!

Janis Joplin was riding in BW's mercedes benz when she had the inspiration for one of her songs.

According to his autobiography BW played on Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds, although according to the Elvis Sessions site it was Reggie Young.

Womack also says he played on Sam Cooke's Twistin The Night Away but this is unlikely as the Valentinos had only recently met up with Cooke. The RCA studio log lists Sam's long term guitarist Clif White and veteran session man Tommy Tedesco (who played on Frank Wilson's DILY) so perhaps BW is being a little economical with the truth?

Still think he's one of the greats though...

Yeah he was a bit of a nob in so much as not open to any suggestions when appeared at Hilton that time but for me he just had a certain aura, when he poured that bottle of water over himself (intentionally), didn't look like any 70 year old I know.

His 'contribution' to any Elvis track would appear to be wishful thinking on BW's part, and nothing more. Womack's unique guitar style is easily recognisable, and there's no sign of his signature licks on any of Elvis' 'Memphis Comeback' sessions.

He did, however, play on Sam Cooke's "Sugar Dumpling" and "Shake"...

The man deserves the accolade..he's turned out some great stuff in his time.I can listen to him for hours when I'm in the right mood.

I once listened to a 2 hour special on him in the eighties (Robbie Vincent if I remeber correctly...still have the tapes somewhere)where Robbie Vincent interveiewd him...man he was so full of bulls**t,but enternaining bull.. I was talking to Tommy Hunt one night and Bobby came into the conversation, he agreed with great amusment that Bobby could spin a tale or two....but agreed with me the mans A LEGEND.......cue a few Womack albums out.....

One of my favourite artists, "Harry Hippie" love the ping of the guitar, "Just My Imagination". Read his book, although a fantastic artist, messed up with drugs, and an arsehole at times. Same with Marvin Gaye complicated characters; bordering genius/nutters, but saying that, would we have had their amazing music?
