  1. A new release from Charly Records imprint 'Club Soul' NORTHERN SOUL ALL-NIGHTER - CHARLYL308 - With this the latest release in their current series of compilation lps the focus turns to 'All Nighters' with a 16 track vinyl lp release available now... Company Blurb Five Star Northern And Modern Soul “All Day, All Night, All Life Long” 16 Stunning tracks celebrating the spirit of the Northern Soul All-Nighter Includes many rarities, unreleased material and tracks never previously compiled “The All-Nighter has been synonymous with Northern Soul since it was christened at the turn of the seventies”. The All-Nighter has been an integral part of “the scene” since the phrase Northern Soul first came into popular use following the now legendary Blues & Soul article entitled “The Up-North Soul Groove” in June 1970 by journalist Dave Godin (issue no.36). During the heyday of the Northern Soul scene the All-Nighter was the preferred format for the travelling soul fan. It separated the scene’s top venues from the hundreds of regional soul nights in pubs, clubs and community halls across the land. The All-Nighter was the ultimate experience and the only place to hear the best, the rarest and the breaking sounds spun by the leading DJs. It was born in Manchester’s Twisted Wheel in September 1963, found its feet (its dancing feet) at the Golden Torch in Stoke-on-Trent from 1970-72, and truly came of age at the Wigan Casino Soul Club from ’73 onwards establishing itself as the premier National and even International event of the 70s. All 16 All-NIGHTER tracks on this newly curated compilation have been remastered from analogue tapes and original vinyl. It is pressed on audiophile heavyweight 180g vinyl housed in a printed inner sleeve complete with new liner notes. All-Dayer joins a growing catalogue of premium music on the Club Soul imprint. Tracks: Side One When I’m Ready - Mill Evans Go On And Laugh - The Sharpees Don’t Say - Tiny Tim Harris Here Comes The Hurt Again - Willie Harper Don’t Cry (Ain’t I Black Enough For You?) - Chico, Barbara & Junior The Yesterday Of Our Love - Jimmy Seals Stop Shovin’ Me Around - The Delicates Bricks, Broken Bottles and Sticks - Vinnie Zen & The Rogues Side Two My Sweet Baby - McKinley Mitchell Our Love (Will Never Falter) - Eddie Bo Show It - Betty Harris Fifty/Fifty - Harold Burrage Let’s Go Steady - Eldridge Holmes Who You Gonna Love? - The Accents Ain’t Got No Love (Instrumental) - Van McCoy & Friends Sad Souvenirs - The Ulti-Mations More info and purchase options via... https://www.clubsoul.club/NORTHERN-SOUL-ALL-NIGHTER-LP-p144244261

  5. Sacred Sounds - Dave Hamilton's Raw Detroit Gospel Various Artists (Dave Hamilton) A just released release from Kent out now in both cd and download formats. This album focuses on the gospel side of Dave Hamilton, offering 24 tracks all related to his Sacred Sounds' imprint. Kent saying that for their first foray into gospel, Dave Hamilton’s inspired work is a natural starting point. A clip of the release notes by @ady croasdell follows along with preview and listing. Company Blurb Sparse but compelling gospel recordings from the late 60s and early 70s, brimming with the soul sounds for which Dave Hamilton is renowned. Detroit guitarist, producer and label-owner Dave Hamilton worked in the city from the mid-40s to the end of the century. He was involved in most fields of black music; gospel was no exception. Although not a particularly religious person, his home was directly opposite Reverend C.L. Franklin’s New Bethel Baptist Church, which his daughters Erma, Aretha and Carolyn would attend and sing. It was a major hub for the Civil Rights movement and Hamilton would have made many contacts through that church. Having an affordable recording studio in the centre of the city, and a reputation as an accomplished guitarist, producer and approachable character, meant he was in business in the right place at the right time. Hamilton dabbled with gospel recordings throughout his career; in 1969 he registered his Sacred Sounds imprint and entered the gospel field seriously. The label had around 20 single releases and at least one album. The records were sold in the churches where the groups performed, and also got across the USA through plays on radio station WLAC. They must have been pressed in relatively small numbers, judging by the scarcity of the discs today. A few 45s were pressed on one-off labels such as New Creation, Silver Harp and Motor City, and the Reynolds Singers featuring Little Stevie was released on Hamilton’s otherwise secular.. 11. A highlight kick for this feature 'Events near me' aka 'local soul guide' is a feature that quite a few event goers on here do use, but we still get promoters who don't add locations so their events don't show on this It is an automatic part of the event guide, the guide simply picks up and displays 'events near you' have a look if your 'goto event' is missing then let the promoter know https://www.soul-source.co.uk/calendar/14-local-soul/

  24. The much awaited new album from PP Arnold is now out and about, titled 'The New Adventures Of PP Arnold' it's now available via cd, vinyl (2xlp) and download. Ear Music Blurb Five decades after she became a ’60s icon with the timeless pop hits ‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’ and ‘Angel Of The Morning’ on Rolling Stones manager Andrew Oldham’s ultra-hip Immediate label, soul singer P.P. Arnold is set to release a double-album of stunning new material featuring contributions from, among others, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Cradock, The Specials and P.P’s songwriter son, Kodzo. Titled ‘The New Adventures Of… P.P. Arnold’ and released via earMUSIC on August 9th , the album crowns an extraordinary career that has seen the singer back Ike & Tina Turner as one of The Ikettes, record with Mick Jagger, the Small Faces, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Barry Gibb and Primal Scream, and provide her distinctive backing vocals for Billy Ocean, Peter Gabriel, the KLF, Paul Weller and, most recently, Roger Waters. ‘The New Adventures Of P.P. Arnold’ was recorded and produced by life-long P.P. enthusiast, OCS star and Paul Weller band guitarist Steve Cradock at his Kundalini Studio in Devon, and follows on – after a 51-year gap – from the singer’s two legendary solo albums on Immediate Records, ‘The First Lady Of Immediate’ (1967) and ‘Kafunta’ (1968), as well as a more recent compilation of previously unreleased material from the late ’60s and ’70s, ‘The Turning Tide’ (2017).
