Weston-Super-Mare (Hip Hug Her) Allnighter 17th Dec 05 Review
Following recent ups and downs in the promoters of the soul nights in Weston super mare and the fall of attendances in the past year or so, it was with a certain amount of nervous anticipation that I arrived at The Grand Atlantic Hotel in Weston. As I walked in I was met by the ever-genial smiles of co-promoters of Merve (Tin Tin) Parnell and Mick Lloyd also two of the resident DJ'S who were joined by two former Heavenly Blocked DJ's Ken Dunn and Mark Thomas who was unfortunately unable to attend due to illness (Hope you get better soon mate). The evening started well with around fifty people already in attendance when I arrived at about 8:30 and with Jason (Mr Motown) Bessant on the decks this promised to be a great evening and all-nighter we were not to be disappointed. The...great mix of tunes from across the decades ... DJ line up was a fine mixture of local and national jocks consisting of The great previously mentioned Jason Bessant, Carl Bodey, Merv, Ken Dunn, Pete Lister, Derek Mead, Mace, Des Parker and of course Mick Lloyd. Whist knowing these DJ's quite well I must admit to expecting an overdose of R"n"B,However I was to be pleasantly surprised with a great mix of tunes from across the decades consisting of northern standards and true rarities, current floor fillers and R"n"B monsters, Motown marvels and sixties club soul crossover and modern. All the jocks blended well together and complementing each others sets with some amazing collections being aired but the choice record of the night for me was the Chevrons - Love I love you played by Merve (Fantastic!!!). Many thanks must go out to those who travelled at this time of year with such a choice of venues up and down the country these days. With an...punters and promoters who together have provided a great soul venue in the south west...attendance of nearly 200 dancers and soul fans this can only be positive for the future of soul in the south and the credit must go to the punters and promoters who together have provided a great soul venue in the south west to complement the Torquay, Bridgwater and Exeter venues and long may they continue. May I wish you all my thanks and congratulations on a superb night with so many friendly faces. New Feature On Soul Source - Refosoul - Clip Based Database
as always over time look at how features are going and if can be improved or better ones offered while using the gallery for sound clips works ok, as it got used more, limitations were appearing, navigation poor, display of titles, no sorting, poor search and so on meant that had a look at another method, while looking sussed out that using this feature can offer a new feature for site..... A reference database of soul clips, that can offer the following all clips can be streamed quickly via a pop up intergrated flash player listing of clips can be sorted by artist, title, date , views etc etc intergrated with site search a seperate search function each clip can have scans, info, links to artists, links to cd availbility, sales past and present links and more posted each clip can be commented by any member, rated all members can submit clips (not available till 100% complete) current state : due to the potential of this feature, rather than wait till all extras have been finished, its been opened now as it works fine as its main aim : a dynamic reference content approx a third or so through adding clips - as updating content there may be a few duplicates, wrong titles, and such. Once all content is present a clean up of any errors will occur clips as this is a reference all clips are clips of the tracks and non-downloadable. The aim is to provide a reliable, regularly updated reference and in the near future links to cd availbility on all tracks will be added, along with artist info and links. A main aim will be to encourage legal purchase of soul tracks via various media. jump straight in at https://www.soul-source.co.uk/debas...e.php?genreid=1 or go via the front door intro page https://www.soul-source.co.uk/debaser/

May Be Of Interest To Some
nice one, could throw in some joke about frazier but wont just googled the station and fair bit of info shows including a audio interview,https://www.kuow.org/defaultProgram.asp?ID=9393 which leads to a few things, including video trailer and website on a up and coming documentry on seattles soul history Kevin have you done any follow up on station or in contact with documenatry team? have added a clip from main page below there is a also request, maybe some on here be able to help ? if are in touch Kevin with them may be worthwhile seeing what they are after, sure be a few willing to help? "If you have records, posters, flyers, memories to share, etc about the soul and funk scene in the 60s and 70s around the Pacific Northwest, we'd love to hear from you! Contact Jennifer. " sites at https://www.wheedlesgroovemovie.com/ clip more info on site Evil Bunny Films Presents. . . While Quincy Jones, Jimi Hendrix, and Ray Charles left Seattle to make it, they left behind a thriving scene with a unique Seattle sound. In the late 1960's, groups like Black on White Affair, The Soul Swingers, and Cold, Bold & Together filled local airwaves as radio station KYAC provided a structure for the community to flourish. Many of the groups started to receive widespread attention with invitations to perform on national television and to collaborate with mainstream acts. Just as many of the groups were on the verge of breaking out, the fickle public turned its ear from funk to disco, and Seattle's soul and funk scene slipped into obscurity. Thirty years later and half way around the world in London, England, the music came to life again. English collectors purchased a defunct record distribution warehouse in San Francisco. One of the records was a 45 rpm vinyl single called "I Let a Good Man Go" by Patrinell Staten, a young Seattle soul singer who printed 500 copies of her 45 in 1969 and traveled up and down the West Coast performing and selling records out of the trunk of her car. The collectors took the record back to England, and it quickly became a huge hit. In 2000, Patrinell Staten Wright, who had gone on to form Seattle's phenomenally successful Total Experience Gospel Choir, was sitting at home when an English woman knocked on her door and offered to buy her copy of the 45 for $3500.
