Charles Walker - Review Of Event, Little Charles
Full article: Charles Walker - Review Of Event, little charles in 21st century. article in the Nashville City Paper about what he is currently up to in USA link below https://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/index.cf...s&news_id=43603 clip below Walker did form a popular '60s soul group in New York, Little Charles & The Sidewinders, but once audience interest shifted to funk and disco, things began drying up for him musically. While cutting an occasional single and doing some European dates, Walker eventually shifted his focus to running a successful art gallery in New York. He also discovered through appearances at "Northern Soul" festivals in England that there was still quite a bit of interest in his vintage recordings throughout Europe. But he finally decided to return to Nashville, and has subsequently discovered there is still a decent American audience for more traditional soul and R&B artists, though nowhere as large as during the heyday of Nashville R&B.

Lowton - Lookback at Aug 2005
A Friday night in August saw a long over due trip to Lowton Civic, dunno what's going on nowadays but feels like doing something wrong if can't get to an event that always enjoy as often as like. Always enjoy Lowton, the layout, three rooms, dj policy, record bar, cost and location all work together with result always have a enjoyable night there. The nite was a mini-niter, as in was open till 4am, fairly sure was told this was the last one open till 4am to be held, which at a guess is something to do with new licensing laws coming in.... maybe but as always best bet is to wait for official word. As said this trip to Lowton was long overdue, and was looking forward to it, sometimes with events if a bit of a gap between visits then do notice differences, but everything was as it was last time, turned up to a full car park busy inside and good buzz, like the layout of lowton cause you're free to roam and can do stuff like play tip on high or corridor sprints if have a need. Main hall was busy, not much chance of reading worthwhile informative reporting here as was after having a most enjoyable nite, grabbed some alcohol made a trip down corridor to check RnB room was still RnB-ing and yep it was certainly doing that with some good sounds as we relaxed down that end of event. Good to catch up with Pete Coulson. A early visit to modern room, still warming up and while can recall every tune pushed out whilst in there just to make sure no mistakes will add Baz M's highlight list that he posted up here other day, a nice mix of everyday people made a impression, quite switched on at this moment as asked Dave L to recommend a good time to get back in later where will catch a couple of good sessions, he made the effort and passed on recommendations, I then made a strong mental note of the timings and after a good dose of what was on offer modern wise moved on, of course these timings were wiped away when later doing some bartering, so anyone reading this who can pass on a better view of the modern room going ons help us out and post up. (sorry bout that but as said was on a nite out nite) Record room was as busy as always and lots of vinyl on offer, always a wide range on offer, bargains, musthaves and so on , lot of catch ups, and fair bits of info Here's just some bits, think 100% Neil Jones gave a heads up on Bury says going strong still packing them in each month and next weeks one should be yet another good one. Point made on night by someone, was how events like Bury and Lowton and others just crack on with no fuss dishing out what they say they will, regular soul events with large crowds month in and month out their own way with no fuss, no politics or no controversy. Interesting point that and caused some discussion Roger Banks was flogging his wares along with dj-ing and passed on that he be bringing his vinyl wares again to the next Monkey at end of month. Soul Sam was doing the vinyl sales thing and took time to pass on his current top plays along with a few of his "on the up" plays which be on site later in monkey section, which of course the next one features Sam as the main guest making a long overdue appearance at Monkey and an overdue return to Llandudno. Of course if cant wait till then can catch him at his own event at Broughton next week. Guy called Ian from Carlise (apologies if name wrong) asked me to pass on info about the Castle Soul Club in London on Friday 26th August with Roger Stewart as guest 8.30-1.30 Main Room was still going strong, caught Dean Anderson dishing out his disks Rob Thomas was strutting his stuff, Steve Thomas was spinning his spins, Andy M and Molly were throwing their tunes John Poole was pushing his plays Districts - One lover, Mac Staton & Nomads - There she goes, Alt version of Upper Hand by Candi Statons dad or uncle, Jimmy Raye - Philly dog around the world, Kenny Lewis - Not the marrying kind, Parsiains - Twinkle little star being a brief varied grab of sounds from night Steve had work in morning so left round 3 ish, well as said was a nite out nite out and as such this lookback is a bit brief on plays and highlights and heavy on rubbish, so feel free to add if there! Overall was yet another enjoyable night at Lowton Civic, as said at beginning its been a while since last visit but to be honest it could have been last month as everything was as it is always, full credit to the promoters for last night and the continuity of this event. Billed djs from flyer NORTHERN ROOM DJS- ROB THOMAS, DEAN ANDERSON, KENNY BURRELL, IAN CUNLIFFE, STE THOMAS, JOHN POOLE, NEV, JOEY by nite was changes - think Flanny took Ian C spot and possibely others MODERN ROOM BOB HINSLEY - MARK GRICE - PETE HAIGH - TERRY GEE - JOHN KANE - GED LUNT AND BAZ MALEADY Top Selections for AUGUST 2005 Lowton Modern Room 1. funny one this am sure that someone who has read all the past discussion and then listened to it via pc may be wondering just what all fuss is about, but as someone said it certainly does have something about it that lifts it up above other 70s 45s, its been one of those 45s that pops in and out of me world a fair bit, but just put a brief bit about some as sort of gives another view on it think first heard mick smith play it at 100 club 4 or 5 years ago? on first hear straight away grabbed my attention, think took me and mucker something like 3 or 4 100 clubs to remember details past a sunday nite- and then sussed out was a cover up straight away on first hear it hit me and others instantly Later on was thrown to hear Butch play it at first Llandudno Conniseurs weekender it being a Mick Smith cover and all that, fairly different crowd but think floor reaction and others hearing it first time was again fairly instant thumbs up Keele - think one of first of revamped ones, went to after-event thing, and there in house heard someone on mobile telling mate about nite and then started going on about what a great 70s track he heard for first time played by Mick Smith, said dunno what was but chorus went something "girl your so good....." again sort of demos just what sort of effect it did have on some people when played out and on first hear Since then when have heard it more often, it always gets a good reaction, and to me whole venue always seem to get a feel-good vibe given off by it, smile on your face stuff, even glass collectors have a spring in their step when its on am a sucker for instant stuff, but from what saw dont think fact it was covered up was a factor in its popularity what so ever, certainly couldnt be to me and others on first hear, dunno what it has but does have something that raises it above many others is it a great record ? is it a average record? shrug in normal world cant say, hear it thru pc but still connect it with certain events and still makes me smile when chorus kicks in, so gonna have a diff outlook than someone listening to the clipped track on here suppose all can say is to me its a great record when its played out

Henry Stone Interview
There is a great interview and profile of Henry Stone covering his six decades in the music business. Henry Stone has long been known around the world as one of the pioneers of the record industry. After working with vinyl, cassettes and CDs, Henry is now moving into music's digital era with worldwide digital distribution of his product on The Legendary Henry Stone label to all of the most popular digital services in the world. In his almost six decades in the business, Henry has discovered talents that have sold millions of records and become international stars. He has formed record companies with hits so big and meaningful that they created new categories in music. Henry was born in the Bronx, N.Y. He played the trumpet, and after a stint in the Army he moved to Los Angeles where, in 1946, he started his career by selling records to jukebox operators from the trunk of his car. In 1948 he moved to Miami, Fla. and started to record and distribute the abundance of Miami doo-wop, blues, gospel and R&B artists. Henry says he "wanted to funk up the world," and he started doing just that via his own Chart, Rockin' and Glory... The interview is by Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen and can be found at https://members.celebrityaccess.com/news/profile.html?id=255 HenryStoneMusic, Inc https://henrystonemusic.com/
