A soul filled Disco gem from the 1978 album ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’, re-issued as a Deluxe album by BBE in 2012, ‘I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping On My Own’ is one of those tracks that combines an infectious melody with a stunning vocal performance. Therefore it takes remixers with real vision to breathe even more life into a track that is already jampacked full of it and with these two tracks both John Morales and OPOLOPO have shown their respective visions. The OPOLOPO Rework kicks off with a tough as they come bassline of fluid funk groove that underpins the aforementioned melody punctuated with percussive piano and builds up as a springboard for Sandy’s amazing vocal performance. John Morales’ mix emphasises the beautiful string arrangements to create the space for that voice to soar over percussion led breaks. If you think you recognise Sandra Barber’s voice then you absolutely do through her vocal performances on the massive hit that was Rare Pleasure’s ‘let me Down Easy’ from 1976 and the Deep Dish produced pair of mid-90s House hits ‘Make The World Go Round’ and ‘Ain’t No Need To Hide’. looks like there's a 'growing trend' of avoiding artist payments clip from the article ''Despite their track sounding almost identical, LF System didn’t technically sample Silk’s I Can’t Stop (Turning You On). “We actually got a replay on that sample,” says Finnigan, referring to a growing trend for major labels to commission teams of musicians to do a replica version of the original. Instead of sampling the original, they’re interpolating it – meaning they only have to get approval from the songwriter or publisher, not the owner of the recording itself. “It’s an interpolation of Silk, that’s why it sounds slightly different,” confirms Finnigan.

The versalite Gents started the Group in 1967 originally as "the African Americans" performed at a talent show at Gillespie Park School, Geensboro, North Carolina. Soon After Virginia Massey a Senior Music Major at A&T joined the group and the name was changed to Gin And The Gents. After one year Massey left the Band and their name was changed to The Versatile Gents. They reformed and called themselves the Vee Gees in the early 70’s. The Members are Robert Evans (Vince Evans of the NFL's brother), Nathaniel Herring, Anthony Quick, CC Stewart, Cecil Young.In their band. Carlton Morales that wrote "Vallotte" and played with Julian Lennon on guitar. Kevan Tynes on drums. Walter Carlton on bass. They recored a beautiful sweet soul side call It’s hard to say so long on Jump in 1973. They came back to the studio in 1974 and cut the incredible Talkin on Jump off records. Vee Gees Talkin is the ultimate crossover tune, Spun by some of the best deejays in the world in the last 3 decades including Arthur Fenn, Keith Money, Andy Burns, Buey, Andy Dawes, Alexander Dimitriades Bentley, Jens Chreisti, Steven Clancy and many others. Can all promoters of 'Satellite Weekender's (ie events that are being held in the same location and on the same weekend as a major weekenders) please post up the 'weekenders' either up in the soul nite or the alldayer section of our event guide 'Satellite weekends' due to their nature don't really fit in with the way our weekender guide works, as it is setup for the more traditional weekenders. Atlanta Soul Artistry 1965-1975 - Various Artists (Hotlanta/ GMG) A new vinyl lp release from Kent Records 'This album is a great overview of the musicians’ and singers’ work – the cream of Atlanta Soul' Release Notes Clip Though built with highly questionable finances, gangster Michael Thevis’ GRC, Aware and Hotlanta labels produced some scintillating mid-70s soul music. Thevis knew his limitations and allowed his producers, arrangers and songwriters free reign as long as they worked hard and came up with good recordings. It was the period in music when Detroit and the south got together, as with Stax and Westbound’s Memphis/Detroit co-productions, and Thevis tried to make that blueprint work for his Atlanta set-up. He brought producer Marlin McNichols and engineer Milan Bogdan down from the Motor City and Floyd Smith from Chicago. Smith came with the highly talented singers Loleatta Holloway and John Edwards, while McNichols brought the Counts, Ripple and Deep Velvet to cut in the spanking brand-new Sound Pit Studios. Songwriter supreme Sam Dees was co-opted from Thevis’ Moonsong operation, which he ran out of nearby Birmingham, Alabama, and the resulting sessions produced some exquisite soul songs – several of which charted, making the company hot between 1973 and 1975. Kent and BGP have featured this hugely impressive catalogue for nearly 30 years. This album is a great overview of the musicians’ and singers’ work – the cream of Atlanta Soul.
