  1. Funny how two of the biggest soul stars chose to record a pop tune
  2. Yes remember that one, Emperor Rosko saturday dinner time used to play loads of Atlantic stuff sure I heard Here I go Again on his show.
  3. Saw a name this morning that reminded me of the early days when any northern spun on the radio would be a very rare occurrence.Mostly confined to a 10 minute slot on a 'regular' soul show on local radio and mainly up north, Radio Merseyside, Radio Lancashire, Red Rose and Piccadily. My own memories revolve around Keep on Truckin' Terry Lennaines soul&funk show on Radio Merseyside in the early 70s Nick Cowan used to bring a few northern sides each week for a northern spot. Terry helped out by getting a few of the UK releases from the BBC radio library (all UK demos) I can well remember the sleeves. Any one got any tales of their own local radio heroes. c60s c90s at the ready!!!!

Wow! just spotted this and it took me back, Nick used to pop in for a spot on Radio Merseyside's "Keep on Trucking" hosted by Terry Lennaine on a Monday night, He played a trio of Northern tunes and was ably assisted by myself, Kevin Horsewood and Colin Dilnott much like the spots Richard did with Mike Shaft on Manchester Piccadily. Back in those days it was the only way to hear Northern on the Radio an hour long Northern show was totally unheard of. I think some dj's shyed away from it as c60's & c90's were always popped in ready to record.
  5. Don't think either the Balance Town or (definitely) the Crazy Beat 45 came out anywhere near the release date of the album,1978, according to Colin Dilnott's article the album was under promoted and very few copies saw the light of day therefore issuing a single at the time seems unlikely. Gene Townsel still has the master tapes but does not have a copy of his own album, I'm not sure but if you check his website the album may be available on cd from the man himself.
  6. Agreed My mate's got one, (don't think he'd part with it though) there is a tale that the money invested in the production on this album was a method of laundering drug money and these albums were never promoted... Criminal on both counts!!

Definitely caused by a weighted needle (stylus) probably where the record skipped I remember copies of You Made Me This Way Ila Vann were like this' so coupla' pennies on the arm did the trick If we knew what these records would be fetching in 20 years time we'd have been more careful!
