Blackpool Mecca
I think theres definitely a link between what was being played out and what appeared on the current soul bowl list, The first 4-5 records listed on the first page(the ones that didn't need reserving by phone) for around £2-£5. where mostly 'modern' spins I got Diane Jenkins and Josie Jo's vibes amongst others from there. List used to arrive on a thursday (payday) used to read it on the way to work and rush to the nearest phone box (no mobiles) I think I called in sick a couple of times to get that main want!!!!! Point is Soul Bowl lists good reference point? I'm sure they used to have comments next to them ,ie Mecca spin ect.

Have you ever wondered how these current (in the 70s) US 45s found their way into this country. Where they imported en masse or was some thought put into what would go down well.Who chose what would come and what would not?

That period from 75 onwards was a golden age for 'our' type of soul music Most new releases were played if they fitted the bill I'm sure Bad Luck was played in the Highland room. The ones that caught me out were the 2-3 year old releases such as At Last, What Goes Up & I Got the Vibes that surfaced after thier release. Luckily enough they appeared on John Andersons list soon after initial plays Appprox £2.00 ea ? Happy Days

HDH should be a whole thread devoted to the post Motown work of these guys. It formed the bridge between classic Motown and Philly and Disco. Ive always loved that synth/organ sound and Im still hearing stuff new to my ears (just love that "Lets Change the Subject " by Satisfaction Unlimited. Could there be a vault of unreleased material? Or was it all destroyed? Would it have been a different story if the guys had left Motown more amicablly

Detroit Spinners
One of my favourite groups "I'll Be Around" & "Its A Shame" would not sound out of place in any crossover/modern set(in fact I'm sure Sam played the former at an Orwell a couple of years ago) Theres many a good tune tucked away on thier albums " Just can't let you get away" from the 2nd? album is a case in point. Phillipe Wynne RIP had a minor solo career after leaving the group in the eighties albums on Sugarhill and Cotillion Saw them at Liverpool Empire mid 70s PW did a signature "Soul Walk" Happy Days
