William Bell - Headline News...sean Sorted Me
Here's the U.K. issue label scan...this is also on Volume 1 of the UPFRONT series (Label = Serious, Cat. No. = UPFT1, Released = 1985) - this album's version may be a longer cut than the single - I haven't played this in years and can't remember...

Dear Reggae Collectors
You could post the matrix numbers of some of these - that would help others (who have a copy of Roots Knotty Roots/RKR - I don't) identify. Soundclips also help and are more enjoyable than dry old matrix numbers This place has a section that may be able to help... https://s7.invisionfree.com/PAMA_FORUM/index.php

Another Reggae Newbie Question
I've just listened to the album and as usual, though I know most of the rhythms, I either can't place them or the versions I have won't be the originals. Here's what I've got... 1. (Vanity) - Alton Ellis I'M JUST A GUY 4. (Never Give Up) - Heptones' PRETTY LOOKS ISN'T ALL 7. (Try Love) - Keith & Tex TONIGHT (for Derrick Harriott) - I bet the original Studio one rhythm pre-dates this. 12. (Love Gonna Pack Up) - Alton Ellis BREAKING UP 14. (Party ime) - Heptones PARTY TIME 15. (Change Your Ways) - Cables' WHAT KIND OF WORLD? 16. (Come On Home) - (Cornel Campbell & the) Eternals QUEEN OF THE MINSTREL ...a bit of a help...

Another Reggae Newbie Question
If TOAD doesn't come back with the answers - I have the album "upstairs" and will dig it out and see what can come up with. Having said that, there may be a number of early versions of these rhythms...so anything I come up with may not be definitive... But hey! it's Jamaican music we're talking about here

Dear Reggae Collectors
If they're UK blanks, these were often pressed deliberately to generate interest, rather than to test the market (as JA ones usuallly were)...

Dennis Coffey - Musician, Producer And Artist
Excellent stuff, Carl...many of the tunes listed are real classics and among my favourites...I have 4 or 5 of his L.P.s and though I haven't played them in a while, they've always been good to listen to. I didn't know he'd done all that, as it were - though I suppose it's unmistakably him on YOU GOTTA PAY THE PRICE... I've taken the liberty of posting the links over at Chatty Mouth (and credited you) Thanks for posting

Million Dollar Disco Updated
Well I wanted to buy these: VARIOUS: DISCO DEMANDS PART TWO VARIOUS: DISCO DEMANDS PART THREE VARIOUS: NORTHERN DISCO PART ONE ...but the place wants me to use Paypal - I've had problems with Paypal (despite never having had an dealings with them, they lifted unauthorisd amounts from my account a couple of years back - all recovered) - Paypal can whistle as far as I'm concerned... Is there another way to buy these? (good old cheque / post etc.??)

Northern Soul And The 7" Single
Thanks for the responses - I occasionally go to Reggae nights and while I've seen CDs and CD-rs played, it's still mostly vinyl - original preferred but no problem with re-presses. I've not seen anyone playing off a laptop. I don't do ebay...

Buddy Miles Passed Away
I only have the 1974 single WE GOT LOVE - a nice outing and Barry White soundalike on this tune. R.I.P.

Rare Funk Soul Forum
As a moderator of 2 Reggae forums, one of which (Chatty Mouth) requires moderator approval on all new accounts, I can take several days to get around to viewing the pending accounts (Chatty Mouth is via proboards), mostly because I forget. I'm trying to discipline myself to have a look at this when I log in and just before I log out, so as not leave any new members hanging on - also there are 3 others who have moderator powers, so usually, there isn't much of a delay - but it can happen! The other Reggae forum (Trojan) requires self-confirmation via answering a simple question - this avoids spam users (spam-bots, is it?) buggering up the forum...

Northern Soul And The 7" Single
What's the word with Northern Soul (or any Soul) and seven-inch singles these days? I don't mean (necessarily) hard-to-find originals or boots, just generally. The Jamaican music biz has always been a singles-orientated market and probably always will be. Thus, it's no problem to get a vinyl "fix" via proper Jamaican re-presses (only £2-£3 each) of classic tunes - sound quality can be variable, but as I've recently been (re-)discovering after a number of years of not really buying vinyl - there's a certain buzz to putting the needle to a record, especially when you get your prized purchase home. CDs are oh-so convenient and sometimes the only way to get a tune, plus the best way to listen in the car... Is there an equivalent market and supply of Soul/Northern singles? I've not seen it mentioned in here - though I haven't dug too deeply.

I Keep Holding On To These Memories
My pleasure, Arnie...if you can't make people smile now and again, then what's the point. Now I can't get A Touch of Velvet... outta my head - I work away from home in the week and all my records are about 100 miles away, else I'd have dug this out for a play...

I Keep Holding On To These Memories
I love that ATOV ASOB - Second City Sound - a Major Minor UK release - wasn't it a Radio 1 or Radio Luxembourg D.J.s signature tune way way back??? I can't dance, by the way and generally pray (on the rare occasions I'm out) that they don't play a tune that would tempt me to move my feet - made almost entirely of clay

Times A Changing
...since there seems to be so much over-hyped (only-hyped?) dross about these days, that seems like a great idea, Tony. Go do it! Seriously, if singles (by law!) had to be made separately from albums - which could be marketed and promoted by whatever means and it was back to the "good old days" of hearing a single on the radio or on someone's record player as the only aural promotion, I'm sure class would rise to the top. Bit like Swiss cheese that idea (full of holes), e.g. quality artists need to be able to record in the first place... I'm rambling...

I have a listen occasionally - REED SEED is a favourite of mine (L.P. only, I'm afraid)...
