As with most of Jackie O's songs, topdrawer, Claudio...though they don't get a gold medal from me - my favourites (SOLID ROCK, THE LORD IS WITH ME and I AM WHAT I AM) I've had since about 1969 or 1970, so they're long in my consciousness, while the two you mention I've only had on CD for about 12 years...

I got the Boz Scaggs "MY TIME (1969-1997)" 2_CD anthology for my birthday - very informative potted bio sleevenotes, with the date and musicians listed for each tune - and the music's pretty sound (though a bit MOR in places) too B) B) Thanks for the help

As one who was born in Coronation week, my tastes always leant towards the 63-78 era. But in the last 10 years or so, I've come to appreciate digital, Dancehall etc - so I love RIKER'S ISLAND - I doubt it's worth a packet, though...

I'm well-enough aware of Boz Scaggs, but avoided buying his stuff back in the 70s - probably because a. it wasn't soulful enough to my ears, so b. the snob in me wouldn't let me shell out any hard-earned on music other than Soul-Disco and Reggae. ...having heard LOWDOWN sampled at least 20 times today, while trying desperately to remembere what the tunes was, maybe I should invest in at least a "Best of..." ...when I eventually get a job and some money

Someone over at Trojan has asked what tune is being sampled by MF Doom and Wu Tang Clan. It's a piece of late 70s or early 80s Jazz-Funk or "Club" Soul. I have it on Bamboo's SOLID GOLD L.P. (BDLP212) from 1970, Pete. Great tune B) I don't think it got a U.K. single release back then - I can't believe a 7" re-press has NEVER happened... I used to buy singles and L.P.s sort of blind - by that I mean based on recommendations I'd read in B&S. Most stuff didn't get played on the radio and I didn't have transport, much cash or any like-minded souls who wanted to travel to "nights". The only time I bought a "placemat" was when I shelled out for Lonnie Hill's "You Got Me Running" L.P. in 1984, because I quite liked GALVESTON BAY - B&S hadn't given tha good write up, but I ignored that. The L.P. has been played once and remains filed away as a salutory reminder of comparative youth.
