Yes I can safely say that the Orwell this Friday should give the biggest clue possible to anyone uncertain of the type of music that gets classed as Crossover. Myself and my bro David have the pleasure and privalige of being able to play 9.00 till 10.30, and we will be mixing it up nicely within the parametres of 60's / 70's / 80's Crossover. Some things like Stan Martin, Frankie Zhivago, Tolbert, Dolly Gilmore, Nobodies Children, Clay Brown, Sweet Mixture, Mixed Emotions, Cania, Pulse.....etc, etc will be played, let alone what Bob Cosby will throw in the pot. Should be reasonably good I would think. Jordi
  2. Frankie, it is a rare one as it only came out as an issue B side. I can't remember the A side without going thru' my records to find it. It's on Colossus. You sometimes see the demos but they haven't got "I'll be true" on. I got mine off the bay about 5 years ago for about £60 - £70 which I thought was a bargain. I was told that it's worth between £500 - £800.....!! I don't know how true that is as there was another on ebay some months ago that also went for only a couple of hundred dollars. I'll dig it out later and give you more details, you could always get the Virgil Henry version also on Colossus for about £50 which is the same backing track and is virtually the same. Jordi

Ethics - "I want my baby back" on Vent. Sounds like a £500 record. Awesome, uptempo crossover dancer for the price of a curry and a pint. Jordi
  4. That answers it for me Alan. Mine is not orig as it comes in straight away. Bollocks! Jordi
  5. I hope you're right as mine is the light blue. I'm pretty sure it is the re. tho' Jordi
  6. Mark, I always thought the light blue was the re-issue. The orig I thought was dark blue. Top tune! Jordi
  7. La Familia inc. - Do you love me on AGP is a very nice latin soul/ northern thang. Jordi
  8. How much does the seller want for this? I certainly wouldn't mind having it. Jordi
  9. New World - "We're Gonna make it" is very similar to Patti Jo - "Ain't no love lost". Both sound like Curtis Mayfield productions, loads of bongos, very uptempo and both are funky and very soulful. Jordi
  10. Definate tune is this one Brett. There's a couple of other nice tracks on the lp as well. Shame it never came out on a 45. Jordi
  11. Can anyone help me out with a copy of Innel Young - What do you see in her" on Libra. I haven't a clue about price or how rare it is, just that it would do some serious damage in my house if I had a copy. Anyone got one or any info? Jordi
  12. It's past the £40-£60 bracket John. I got mine off the bay about 3 years ago and it cost me about £50 then. It's got to be more like £80-£100+ now, and with Sam reviewing it (about a year after I reviewed it) in Manifesto, it might go for more. It's a good 'un tho'. Jordi
  13. Oh dear!!!! This could be endless, but I'll just chuck this one in as possibly the finest and most important record ever........ Carstairs Really hurt me girl ......or may be Gayle Adams!!!!!! Jordi
  14. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes - I played the fool on Epic I used to have this. Bruce Springsteen connections with the sax player I seem to remember. I don't think I'd enjoy hearing it now! Jordi
  15. I can't get my breath with this. Every single one that I know on the list is just ridiculously valued! It's never right in a million years. Does anyone know anyone or admit to winning any of these? Are there a few lottery winning soulies on the scene that can't be arsed to hunt around for the tunes. OK some are shit rare and wont be seen for sale hardly ever, but there are too many that are around on one list or another or in people's boxes. I just can't help but feel there is something underhand going on here that is designed to get people in a lather about certain tunes and thus make people feel they should be paying these kind of prices. I know for a fact that people who are thinking of turning their records into cash are going straight to Ovenchip, knowing that is the best way to maximise their profits, which is fair enough, but who the f*** is spending £200 on Eloise Laws, or £600 on Ujima etc. etc.? This scene fucks my head in sometimes. If it aint this dodgy auctioning, it's DJ's playing the same played out tunes over and over again, week in week out and not having the balls to move things forward by playing different stuff. For Christ's sake the dancers will follow eventually if the tunes are good. I know I can't be the only person on the scene that wants to be stunned by fresh tunes, that I have to go up to the DJ and say What the f*** is this?!! That's what keeps the scene alive. At the moment it seems as stale as my friggin undies. Jordi

I've been after this myself for years Leo, I just can't get hold of one. Butch did have it but I missed out on it about 3 years ago and I haven't seen one up for sale since. Jordi
  20. Talking of Traffic Jam/ Chet Davenport on Toeholt. I've just got hold of a wicked little tune on Toeholt by Nobody's Children, called "Shardarp", it's the flip of a sweet soul tune which I can't remember the title of, but it's a killer funky soul dancer from 1976. I can't find out any info about it, can anyone help? Jordi

"Didn't I do it to you" is my favourite Skullsnaps 45, followed by "I'm Your pimp." Did "Pimp" come out on an orig 45 or was it just on the boot flip of "Hang up"? Jordi

What's the story behind Velvet Hammer's "I can't believe", as it's exactly the same record as High Society's "I cant believe" which is about £30-£40 instead of Velvet's £150. I suppose Velvet's is probably rarer but why did the same recording come out under 2 different artist names? Jordi

Great show James! What's the info on these crackers. Jordi Freddie Wilson "In Born Soul" Ree Flores "Look Into My Heart" Blue Rhytm Combo "Too Old"
  24. Had to laugh rather loudly there Kolla!! I think there is also a slight suggestion of helium inhalation on the chorus'. Jordi
  25. Am I the only person on here that thinks the Dottie and Millie is a sickly, irritating piece of overrated pap, or should I get my coat? Jordi
