"Strange Wordl Of Norther Soul" DVD
Truly awful video production. Great idea as has been said, and at least someone has had a go at doing something, but any sense of what makes a programme watchable as a piece of TV or film has been totally lost or more probably was never there. I don't know what film / TV making advice Levine took while making this but I would imagine from looking at the final job that it was either none at all or any that was given was totally ignored. It's cheap and nasty to look at, nausea inducing most particularly during the 'pop' videos by the artists. I couldn't imagine a worse way of showing these artists. Obviously not enough footage was shot at the time of these guys miming, so he relied on the worst wedding video / 70's Dr. Who effects to diguise this fact. I could go on at length about this video but it's pointless. The whole thing would have been a better job if he hadn't used these ultra dated and cheesy effects, if the backing tracks to the artists songs weren't Levine re recordings featuring a Tamla drumroll that appears at least 30 times in each song with bontempi keyboard brass sounds etc, and if it had been no longer than a couple of hours long. A proper documentary needs to be made on this subject. Jordi

Pay Pal
Doesn't sound like a fault of Paypal to me. Sounds like you did well to get a payment from Paypal as I would think it's the person who promised you the record who is at fault here. We all get stung buying records off t'internet at some point, it sounds to me as if you have. Jordi

Midtempo CD Swap - members only
Thanks for the info Dan. How does it compare to the Pioneer 609? I've been advised to go for this one as it's simple to use ie press play and record and set your levels, and it's great quality. It has also been voted a best in "What hi-fi" Cheers...Jordi

Midtempo CD Swap - members only
I would be up for this but I haven't got a cd recorder yet. I'm trying to get hold of a Pioneer PDR 609, I don't suppose anyone can help with this? Jordi

Put this to Bed no 2? Houston Outlaws
Mike, my Houston Outlaws has got W-1557-1 CANADIAN LTD scrawled in the run out groove and a tiny PR, and some other squiggle that I can't make out with an M in it. No stamp tho', but it's a genuine article. Top tune with a good funk flip. Best..Jordi

Record wants
Somebody had a "real" Tommy Tate on KoKo a few years ago at an Albrighton all nighter. I looked at it and it sure looked authentic. He wanted about £400/£500 for it if I remember correctly. There was some scepticism as to whether it was real however. May be someone else knows about this. Jordi

Royal Esquires Rare or Not
Royal Esquires definately looks real to me. I certainly don't regret forking out the $200 for my copy as it's a killer tune. Why people shout out about bootlegs is beyond me. Every single time a rare tune gets found in any quantity more than 3 they are automatically boots. Things are always going to turn up unless all stocks were destroyed or were never issued and only on promo. It's hardly surprising that a pile would be found of any tune, as distribution of many small label tunes back in the day (as well as today for that matter) would have been fairly limited. Once a group or artist's distributor or more likely the group themselves had run out of local options as to where to send the records ie shops and radio stations, they probably would sit in someone's cellar waiting for a time when the tune might get picked up on by the radio and local demand for it would rise and the copies would be sold and it would be a hit. Only it hardly ever went like that and therefore the tunes would gather dust. At the end of the day if you like a tune you pay what you are prepared to pay and what you can afford. As probable as it is that records will always turn up, it is even more certain that when they've all been sold you will wish you'd had one. Jordi

Stevens & Foster
You're probably right Leo, I'm obviously mixing up my Jerri's. Jordi

Stevens & Foster
Stevens and Foster is on Jeree records I think, and when it comes up for sale is between £50 - £100. Class tune that I've been after myself for ages and keep missing out on when it does show up. It's perfect for the funky house boys to sample the piano from, I'm surprised nobody has done it yet. Jordi

Alex Brown - I'm Not Responsible
John, Sam gave the Stan Martin a hammering at Yarmouth to a very enthusiastic response. I think we will be hearing it a fair bit at other venues that play 70's crossover and funkier end soul. Class tune and a great dancer as well. Jordi

New Deepfunk radio show with guest Marco Santucci
Enjoyed the show James and Marco. Some nice bits of very underplayed soul on there. Jo Anne Garrett and Anna Raye Wright certainly did it for me. Jordi
