  2. Ladies / Gents , Whilst we're all on a nostalgia roll re Shotts and the importance it played in the Scottish Soul Scene , could we please have a scrum down regarding the nighter that really got me into this mess and a lot of you in the first place !!! Comimg from Falkirk my trip to Glenrothes on a Sat night was easy compared to some , bus at 5.30pm from Larbert ,after finishing work at 5pm , got me into Glenrothes town at 8pm , after going round every bloody village in Fife , then straight to bar at Bowling Alley to meet up with the rest . Sun morn not so easy as bus not till 10am , or cadge a lift back with Edinburgh lot. Alan and Steve Walls were fantastic in their choice of sounds / venue / and rosta of dj's , Keb , Colin Law ,Jim Tennent , Jock , Guy , etc ... as well as a host of new talent and their dj debuts , keeping a mix of newies / modern sounds and oldies alike which paved the way for the scottish scene to follow I have still never, in 25 yrs been to a nighter or soul night where people danced on the tables without being kicked out !!!! Top Five Sounds for me of that Time : Larry Davis - I've Been Hurt So Many Times Oliver Norman - Drowning in My Own Despair Checkmates -Mastered The Art Of Love Ray Pollard - Wanderlust Willie Small - How High Can You Fly Over to you lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Brenton Wood - Gimme Little Sign Trampps - Hold Back The Night Brothers Johnson - Stomp LAST RIDE , LAST RIDE , SCREAM IF YA WANNA GO FASTER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. A little bit sad !! When she started splitting with " Texas " a few years ago ,she was obviously hanging out with a new in crowd , as I remember her name dropping in an interview Marvin Gaye " Love Starved Heart " as her current fave record at the moment !!! Bearing in mind this was prime time teeny sat morning tv , the presenter and of course the onlookers , ( average age 13 yrs ) were like , who and what ? !!!! Don't get me wrong , lovely girl and great voice / songstress , and a marvellous ambassador for scotland , but I'm fed up with the celeb cash in , so in the immortal words of Harry Starr " Another Time , Another Place " !!!
  5. I went to an allnighter in Newcastle , about 87 , I think it was a one off in the end , but on the door they were dishing out membership cards , orange in colour with " Soul Explosion " across it , any takers on this one or is dimentia already upon me !!!
  6. Donn Thomas - How Can I help But Love You - Memories of Morecambe Pier !!!!!!!!!!
  7. Tommy Frontera - You're My Leading Lady Gino - Paper Moon Italiano magnifico !!!
  8. Very interesting reading and here's my story : Grew up in Falkirk , Scotland and got into the scene via my mates big brother , ( when you've got a 20yr old trying to " come down " in his bedroom after a night at wigan and two 13 yr olds playing his newly bought records at high volume mid afternoon , it ain't happening !!!!! ) Started properly on the scene at Crown Hotel , Thornton , then regular from start at Glenrothes YMCA , until end , before the move to Shotts /Allanton Ruff Cut Soul Club . Memories of these " hazy " days to numerous to mention !!! But stand out points have to be in no particular order , Keb playing the Fabulous Impacts ( Moments ) 5 times in one spot at Glenrothes 1st Annv ,with the immortal words " Stomp you bast****s " Bus to Morecambe with Edinburgh lot , 3rd Annv at Central Pier , put nighter bag on coach floor only to discover soaked when got there due to back of bus having a piss ! Record bar at Shotts , great records , great mates, greater prices at that time !!! and in winter you really felt those bogs !!!! The whole scene in scotland was at it's best at that time with the quality of dj's and their set of records , Colin Law , The Walls brothers , Mark Linton , Andy Dennison ( Hi Andy, it's Scott Lister ) and Jock O' Connor , pure class !!! Shotts for the music , the dj's , the people who travelled month in / out and the friendliness wins it all folks , hands down !!!
  9. The Allen Sisters - Downtown Crowd Q- Thats the Way Padded Cell - Mister Misery
  10. The Tempests in recent years , top quality album
