Because it made good financial sense for Berry Gordy. If he already had a backing track recorded, he didn't have to pay any musicians again to record it on a different artist.

No you're not. It is crap, it's Country Blues and should never, ever, ever have even been shown to a pair of decks, never mind played on them. Some records you love with a passion, others you hate..............this is one I hate
  3. That's correct. Adey Pierce from Gloucester had this and a couple of other Sidra / Drew recordings on a 10" studio acetate which he made available for the above CD. From memory, without checking the liner notes on the CD, the other track from the acetate was called 'A Dream' and is probably the better of the two tracks. Although credited to Barbara Mercer, I believe the studio acetate had no credits, so it might not be her anyway. Just dug the CD out, the above info is correct, and would you believe it was seven years ago that I wrote those liner notes !! The 10" Fabulous release was later than the CD, 2002, but was another of Glenn Gunton's (Who was in effect Joe Boy Records) compilations. I'm fairly sure that the guy who now owns the legal rights to all the Sidra / Drew stuff lives in the South West UK (Possibly Gloucester / Cheltenham)
  4. Well I am surprised. If the chat room you run is full of posts like the PM you sent me no wonder nobody wants to come and play with you........and I quote "f*** you asshole". "Punk bitch" and "Cockbite" were three of the most choice phrases you used...... Happy New Year and I mean that very sincerely because it must be lonely for you. ps. what's a cockbite ?
  5. I wish you luck then. You're obviously such a pretentious cnut that I can assure you I won't be joining you as an IRCitizen, I'm quite happy as a whiner
  6. I mean posh because you're waffling on about IRC and DALnet when all you had to say was "It's a chat room"
  7. Am I right in thinking this is a posh chat room ??
  8. Rob Smith is still in business as far as I know
  9. I know I'm thick, but what's a DALnet chat channel ? I'm looked at the link and I'm no wiser ?
  10. To be honest Chalky, all the time. Someone can be ignorant, without it being an insult, but to say someone is pig ignorant is intended in one way only, and that's as an insult
  11. It's unreleased RCA off one of the Kent CDs
  12. That's what I've been hinting at
  13. He doesn't now
  14. Soul Sourcers can't agree what day it is most of the time, so the chance of a top 500 would be almost impossible
  15. Well after a break of six months I've finally got Issue 71 finished. I've produced a mag every three months for the last eighteen years or thereabouts, so needed a rest. This issue has articles on The Delcos, Patti Drew, venue reports, CD, Book, and Vinyl reviews, Discographies, and all sorts of other things So if anyone would like a copy, PM me and we'll sort payment out (Paypal accepted). I've had to put the price up to £4 this time, (First price increase in eight years) and postage works out at 70p now. Alternately, pick a copy up at one of the venues I'm at over the next couple of months. Cheers

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is the messiest recording ever to have been played on the scene
  17. Don't know why this particular single is rare, everything else on the label seems to be around in quantity. But I do know it got rarer after John Weston bought a copy !!!!!!

I've got one of these in my sales box for £20. It's an Inferno single - Dobie Gray - Out On The Floor / Cindy Soul - Nine Times Out Of Ten / Fury's Band - I'm Satisfied With You (Inst)
  19. Couldn't agree more Ken. Last time I called in there were already two other Soulies there, and another turned up whilst we were chatting. Max made everyone a coffee, and then we all stood outside for a smoke and a chat. You don't get that sort of service in any other type of shop.
  20. I think you may need to reconsider your pricing. Soul fans are a notoriously tight fisted lot, and probably wouldn't consider paying anywhere near £15 to listen to a band they don't know.
  21. I agree with most of what you say, but the converse side of it is, without the Northern scene, none of the artists would have benefitted anyway from the reissues and live performances that they have benefitted from over the last twenty years. Certainly I have seen many more live acts because of the Northern scene than I would have if it didn't exist, so those artists all benefitted. I've bought hundreds of CDs, so the artists benefitted from those (assuming the company paid what was owed, and assuming of course that the artists actually still own any of the track, bearing in mind that many of the records that were made were sold at the time as one offs to less than reputable record company owners) So, whilst I happily pay lots of money for a single which doesn't benefit the artist at all, I also like to think that without people like me, a lot of artists would be unrecognised and unknown. I know that the artists I've spoken to are a lot more impressed with the recognition they receive now, in this country, than the cash they received when their records were made !

https://www.jibjab.com/sendables/preview/KE...zVBkggWpxZvN7Lv Blame Ganche for this one as well
  23. When you say you 'own' all the tunes on the site is that what you really mean ? Or do you mean you 'own' the records ? I couldn't say for sure, but I think Neil Rushton might wish to challenge you on the Driza Bone tune ownership.
  24. Well it's over ten years since he was caught thieving
