What Would You Do In These Circumstances?
In some cases that makes no difference. I sold a record to a member on here. I scanned the label, put a full sound clip taken from the record with it as well. Graded it as VG++. They have asked for their money back because they claim it's VG-, and jumps on their equipment. I pointed out that it's their equipment at fault then because it didn't jump when I recorded it to put the sound clip on SS ! I've offered them a refund, but they will never, ever get to buy another record off me.

A Most Amazing Unreleased Northern Dancer
I guessed that was the case, but couldn't resist teasing you about it. If I'd got something that I thought was that good I'd tell people they had to turn up Friday to hear it

A Most Amazing Unreleased Northern Dancer
So if it sounds late '60s, when was it recorded ? and will it be released on the Boardwalk label ?

What's The Best Set You've Ever Heard?
was that the one where I ran over by 20 minutes because the staff didn't realise the time ?

Dancing Dj's
Thanks Matt, I do dance occasionally, but in all honesty haven't danced really for years because if I spend the night dancing, I have real trouble walking the next day. Johnny Weston is a regular dancer though, and you must have just not been on the same dancefloors. I'm pretty sure I've seen Cliff and Carl dancing, but not often, and have to admit I don't think I've ever seen Dave Welding dance. I do think it's essential for a DJ to have a sense of rhythm, and to understand what makes people want to dance, but it's not essential for a DJ to actually be a dancer. Remember being a dancer doesn't bestow anything special except a sweaty shirt, and I've seen some pretty awful dancers who DJ.

Levine Manifesto Interview
Of course every member of Soul Source has the opportunity to go on Mary Fox's radio show and defend themselves don't they. If Ian Levine wants to broadcast insults on radio, then admit to defrauding people, and making totally false claims in magazine interviews, when people have no right of reply through those same mediums, what right does he have to complain if people use other mediums. Yes, he discovered a lot of good records, over thirty years ago. More recently his behaviour has been an embarrassment and a disgrace. I wonder how you can admire someone who broadcasts personal insults, admits to fraud, and attempts to re-write history to show himself in a favourable light. Personally I think all these traits are despicable, your view of people obviously differs from mine.

Levine Manifesto Interview
I agree entirely,so I assume that the next issue of Manifesto will carry an apology from Ian regarding the inaccuracies he quoted regarding the Dome. After all, the whole point of this thread was about the inaccuracies in the remarks Ian made. fair's fair !!

The Dome & The Boys
At the same time we had Albrighton running in the Midlands. You're right, it was a fabulous time !

The Dome & The Boys
From memory it was Bernie O'Brien that tried to do the Dean Courtney thing up north
-
The Dome & The Boys
That was before Matt teamed up with CSC. He tried to put Dean Courtney on (Don't think Dean Parrish had been found then), but that fell through which left him with the venue, and CS joined him. That's why it was MJ Promotions and CSC.

The Dome & The Boys
That's interesting because in the CSC story Alan states that the first night was 24th November 1999. Now I know I DJ'ed at the first one, and can't imagine how I have a flyer for October 1999 if that was the wrong month. I'm still convinced that the first night was the one on the flyer, October 1999. Right I've been and dug out Issue 40 of SKM. The first night was definitely the 8th October, 1999 because I wrote a review of the night and referred to it being the first one at the venue.

The Dome & The Boys
The colour flyer was deffo the first event at the Dome, because I was honoured to be booked for the first one, the second flyer was in between the two because the third one is for the first anniversary in November and the Christmas party in December. Now assuming I haven't mis-filed the Dome flyers by a year, the first one is October 1999, the second January 2000, and the third November / December 2000. So I think you may be wrong with your Shoreditch October 1999 date. Funnily enough I thought I'd just check to see if the website still existed. It doesn't. and the domain name is now being used as M(ichael)J(ackson)promotions.com

A Few From The Sales Box
The Fabulous Peps - With These Eyes - Wee 3 - VG++ - £50 A current dancefloor monster, and proving harder to find than expecte. This copy isn't mint, but is still a nice clean copy with just a bit of ringwear on the label. Books at £75 in Manships SOLD Fabulous_Peps___With_These_Eyes___Wee_3.mp3 Finally, a real oddity. Grand Stand - Little Misunderstanding - It Will Stand - M- - £50 Not in any of the price guides this was recorded in 1981, but sounds as though it was recorded in 1969. Admittedly the vocal is a little white sounding, but I'm sure this would have a fair run if a DJ got behind it. Grand_Stand___Little_Misunderstanding___It_Will_Stand.mp3 Postage charges: In the UK, 1 x 45 is £2.00 but that includes recorded delivery. Each extra item is 30p extra. Special delivery is £5.00. Overseas - Europe is £2.00 airmail or £6.00 special delivery. However if the item costs more than £20 I would have to insist on the special delivery insurance being taken out. USA, Australia, Japan and elsewhere: £2.50 airmail and 40p for each extra item. Any questions PM me. Thanks for looking, and I hope you find something you fancy. Cheers

A Few From The Sales Box
Little Anthony & The Imperials - Better Use Your Head - Veep - E+ - £50 Classic oldie in really nice condition. It's also the rarer 'octagon style' of the two labels. Books at £60 in Manships Little_Anthony___Better_Use_Your_Head___Veep.mp3 Johnny Nash - Strange Feeling - Argo DJ - M - £25 Another classic, but this one really is mint, and my guess is the only time it's ever been played is when I played it to record it for this. It's also a DJ copy, which is quite rare in itself. Johnny_Nash___Strange_Feeling___Argo.mp3

A Few From The Sales Box
Erma Franklin - Abracadabra - Epic - M - £100 And of course it's the much rarer yellow issue. Label and sound perfect. Books at £150 in Manships Erma_Franklin___Abracadabra___Epic.mp3 Buddy Lamp - You've Got The Loving Touch - Wheelsville - M- - £65 This would easily qualify as unplayed mint except for the fact there is a slight storage warp. It doesn't affect play at all though and is only noticeable because the needle rises up and down by about 2mm at one point. Remember the sound clip is taken from this record (Which of course means it's not unplayed ). Books at £75 in Manships. Buddy_Lamp___Yoy_Got_The_Loving_Touch___Wheelsville.mp3

A Few From The Sales Box
Decided to put a few from my sales box up on Soul Source. All the label scans and sound clips are taken from the actual record. the descriptions are as accurate as I can be. Payment can either be by cheque or paypal (But you pay 4% extra with Paypal to cover the fees) PM me if you're interested, all will be dealt with in the order I receive them. Although I really do want to sell these you might be able to tempt me with the right trade so don't be afraid to ask, and don't be offended by a polite refusal, or even hysterical laughter ! Sonny Daye - Long Long Road To Happiness - Power - £200 NM Absolute monster from Stafford that you never see anymore. The record is in immaculate condition both label and sound. Books at £250 in Manships. Sonny_Daye___Long_Long_Road_To_Happiness___Power.mp3 Jimmey 'Soul' Clarke - (I'll Be Your Champion) I'll Be Your Winner - Soulhawk - £150 - VG +++ I've said this is VG+++ because the label looks a little scruffy, and during the quiet part at the beginning there are a couple of clicks and pops. However once it gets going the sound quality is great. Not a collector's quality of record if you're looking for mint condition, but superb for DJing with. Books at £200 in Manships Jimmey_Soul_Clark___I_ll_Be_Your_Champion___Soulhawk.mp3

No I Havnt Got It, And Never Will
A few years ago I went Annersley with Margie and Phil & Sue Richards. Apparently their guest DJ had let them down and Mick H had volunteered to step in at the last minute. Now Annersley was all stomping Oldies (This isn't a criticism we knew the music policy when we went), and Mick had never really met Margie and Sue. We took great delight in sending them to ask for the most ridiculous requests, The Snake, Wigan's Ovation etc etc. Mick's face was an absolute picture as he tried to, very politely I might add, explain that he didn't have those records with him. After this had happend a few times he must have watched where they were sitting and realised that I was behind the whole thing. "You bastard Rimmer. That's a bottle of Bud you owe me" boomed out over the mic !!! It was fun whilst it lasted though Another time at Loughborough University I DJ'ed after Chris Anderton who had been deluged with requests for the type of records being discussed here. He'd kindly said "ask the next DJ, he'll have them" . Being the gentleman that I am, I said exactly the same thing. The greatly missed Derek Allen was the DJ on after me, and Derek being such a nice guy played almost ever record Chris and I had dodged. Mind you, he said a similar thing to Mick H when he's finished DJing I know Chris Anderton once got asked "Can you play some Northern Soul" in the middle of his spot (Would have made a change from the Disco he usually plays though)

Blues & Soul
They should have been prosecuted under the Trades Description act. There was never any Blues and precious little Soul in the magazine for the last several years

The Seven Souls
The best thing about the French one is it's on good thick vinyl not that nasty styrene which the US one is made of (Don't know about the Italian copy but I would guess vinyl as well)
