  1. I got Fred Hughes - Baby Boy on Brunswick about 6-7 years ago for about a fiver, if my memory serves me right. As for Juanita Williams, never heard it! Do you wanna sell it for a tenner? Or can I get a bootleg copy? LOL ;-)
  2. I agree with the comments being made. It's one of the reasons why on another post I asked for suggestions for cheap original records. As for the do I was talking about on yet another post, it's really only a bit of fun for my mates and I. Although saying that if anybody was at a loose end and there was nothing better to do, you're more than welcome (if and when I manage to organise it!). As for The Metros I'll admit if I play it, it would be on Joker (or, don't laugh, CD). Unfortunately I just don't have the money to spend £££'s on original records, but if anybody wants to make donations? (Ooops, don't want to start that argument off again, LOL) The wife and 3 kids have most of me wages! The problem is I just get frustrated when I read stuff like on John Manships site, 3 years ago this was £10 now top bid £150+ (Deep Dark Secret anybody?). I get annoyed that I never knew about these tunes when it was only a tenner! Since joining this forum I'm going to change my buying habits. I'm going to look more for cheap originals and not so many re-issues. As for DJ's at do's, I'd be pissed off if I'd paid £10+ to get in and they were playing the majority of tracks off CD's, and not originals. I won't say all as I don't want to offend anybody, who plays the occaisional track off CD. Also Pot & Kettle spring to mind! Anyway I'm off as I've got to get ready to go out tonight, Once Upon A Time In Wigan at Greenwich. Can't wait!
  3. Supercorsa replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
It's currently at $5325.00! What does that work out at in £'s?
  4. This NEW Double Cookin vocal, is that opposed to the Old one? The Del-Satins anybody?? P.S. just ignore me, I'm trying to get to be an advance member, to get a badge from Janine LOL!
  5. Thank you Mick, you've cheered me up as I was 4 in 1971. I feel alot better realising that I'm not as old as some on here! LOL! ;-)
  6. I quite like the following, Barbara Randolph - I Got A Feeling Marv Johnson - You Got The Love I Love Frank Wilson - Do I Love You (sentimental reasons, had it played at my wedding) But of course anything by Edwin Starr does it for me!
  7. Kolla & Brian thanks for the comments, even if they are a bit League of Gentlemen-esque (What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here! LOL). Oh, as I write I've just seen Grants comments. Grant you obviously are aware of the element of truth shown in Phoenix Nights. My mates on the committee don't want to charge people to come in, but hope to make a little extra in takings over the bar (shouldn't be hard, usual Friday night Crib crowd 1/2 a shandy for 3 hours!). Unfortunately my mate & I will not be getting anything for doing it, although that isn't reason for me wanting to do it. It's one of those, wanting to see if I could do it things (Does that make sense?). Anyway it's good fun just to see the members faces when your playing tunes such as Don Gardner - Cheatin' Kind, Eddie Parker - Love You Baby, The Vibrations - Cause You're Mine (all re-issues!). You can lip-read them all saying " What the f**k's this?" Anyway it would be in Staines, near London. I don't think the 100 Club, CSC, These Old Shoes, Bisley, etc., have got anything to worry about tho'. P.S. Kolla I couldn't find the post about CD & LP's. Doh!
  8. What are peoples thoughts on Do's where CD's are used as well as vinyl? I know this must seem like blasphemy to some of you, but I'll explain why. I'm a member of a small ex-servicemens club locally to me and in the past we did an evening of Northern & Tamla Motown. I thought it went quite well and I managed to get a few (literally! LOL) extra people into the club, even though I didn't advertise. Anyway I digress, the club has said I would be allowed to have another do (as I told them the dancefloor doesn't see enough action). The problem being that although I would have enough records (not necessarily originals, infact quite a lot of reissues) for an evening. I feel that I wouldn't have enough quality tunes on vinyl and would therefore have to use my CD's as well. I never advertised the last do, but was considering knocking up a small amount of flyers if I was to have another. The only drawbacks would be that it would be normal licensing hours, plus also the members of the club would be in attendance. Although saying that it would be FREE ENTRY. Do you think I should just hold a do anyway and not worry about what formats I use and whether people turn up or not? Please if anybody could give me some advice it would be appreciated, thanks.
  9. Got to be, Darrell Banks :- Open The Door To Your Heart b/w Our Love (is in the pocket)
  10. I've been listening to a track on The Soul Club site, by Darlene Love. It's called, A Long Way To Be Happy. Has anybody got any information such as label, price & availability (if not too expensive where I might get a copy)?
  11. Well once again thanks for the suggestions. I've managed to buy the following (from your suggestions)within the past couple of weeks: Lorraine Rudolph - Keep Coming Back For More - Jet Stream SUPERLATIVES: Lonely In A Crowd (Westbound) MARY WELLS: Keep Me In Suspense (Atco) Syl Johnson - Try Me - Twilight I must say they are all good and also which makes it better for me, tunes that I hadn't heard before.
  12. I don't particularly like "So Is The Sun by World Column" Whenever I hear it all that I can think about is The Jam.
  13. This topic could get interesting. Also Mike, what's retro Northern (I don't know what you mean)??
  14. FOOTSEE, anybody?
  15. Oh yea, one other while I think of it. Sister Sledge - Love Don't You Go Through No Changes -Atlantic White Label test pressing for $5.99 off Ebay. Only to see it for auction on John Manships site for over £70 a week or two later. And please no jokes about me still having paid too much!
  16. Two of my bargains(what I consider bargains) are from Car Boot sales. Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - One Way Out - Gordy 20p Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - The Night - Mowest 30p Also considering the prices Frank Wilson is going for on Tamla Motown recently, I paid £2 for mine in 1985 at Exmouth scooter run. My Brother in law bought, Gino Washington - Like My Baby - Mala DJ for £2.50 at Feltham market, many years ago. At the time he thought it was GENO Washington! I tried to get it off him recently, but unfortunately he saw a copy on the net selling for £140!
  17. Thanks for all the help. So it seems, I've been looking for a record that doesn't exist. Doh! This must mean, I've got the whole labels output. Not exactly up there with the collectors who have the complete collections of original Tamla, Gordy, Ric Tic, Golden World, Revilot, Etc., Etc., but I'm happy(I think? LOL).
  18. Deanne, I'm interested to know what venue you're talking about?
  19. Grant is correct with email address: adey@cotswoldrecords.co.uk
  20. How Much? Has the world gone mad?
  21. During the eighties (scooter runs) and in one case more recently, I bought some records on the Sound of Soul (SOS) label. Anyway since then I've wondered how many releases there were on the label, I think there were 10 (not too sure tho'). Anyway the ones I have are as follows: SOS 001 Beverly Ann - He's Comin' Home b/w Dynatones - Fife Piper SOS 002 The Vibrations - Cause Your Mine b/w Count Five - Psychotic Reaction SOS 003 Major Lance - You Don't Want Me No More b/w Matt Parsons Orchestra - Boogaloo Investigator SOS 004 Bobby Paris - I Walked Away b/w Carnaby - Jump And Dance SOS 005 The Majestics - I Love Her So Much (it hurts me) b/w Bobby Paris - Night Owl SOS 006 Dee Dee Sharp - What Kind Of Lady b/w Derek + Ray - Interplay SOS 007 Delcos - Arabia b/w Present - Many's The Slip SOS 008 Greg Perry - It Takes Heart b/w Alfie Davison - Love Is A Serious Business SOS 009 ???????????? SOS 010 Mr Charles - I Don't Need No Doctor b/w N.F. Porter - Keep On Keeping On Does anybody know what was on SOS 009 (if indeed there was a SOS 009)? I have been told by people that it was either, The Chandlers or Lew Kirton, but nothing for certain. This is just one of those things that has bugged me for some years! Also if anybody has a copy, would they sell it? Can anybody help me, please?
  22. I picked up a UK released Stax album from a car boot a few years ago now for a £1. Its called: Stax Northern Disco Sounds (STXB 3002) The tracks on it are as follows: Side 1 At Last by The Temprees Happy by William Bell Wade In The Water by Little Sonny Friday Night by Johnnie Taylor There's Gonna Be A Showdown by Rance Allen Free For All by Mel & Tim Side 2 You Need A Friend Like Mine by Annette Thomas Oh La De Da by The Staple Singers Bet You I Win by Little Milton That's The Story Of My Life by Major Lance Chains Of Love by Jimmy Hughes The Right Track by Jones & Blumberg Medicine Bend by Margie Joseph It dates from 1975 and there's sleevenotes from Ian Dewhirst on it. There's also a mention for the album 'Stax Southern Disco Sounds', which I've never seen. I won't ask the value of my album because firstly I'm not selling it and secondly I wasn't ripped off for a Quid! One last thing has anybody ever been to a Northern Disco?
  23. I was just wondering, what attracts people to a venue/do for the first time? Is it the advertised DJ's? Do the Flyers that you see at every Do work? Is it from actual reviews on sites and in magazines? Or is it just the good old fashioned 'word of mouth'? Like I said, I was just sitting here wondering (might get some tips if ever I put a do on, LOL!).
