High points... Met some real nice people on my travels to soul nights...Great crowd in Australia for the weekender,they made me feel so welcome... Dublin all-dayer...Over on the ferry with a good crowd straight after New Century all-niter..I just love that crowd over there and its great to see a much younger crowd who really love the scene...Kissed Carl Willingham a few times(that must be his low point)... Ongoing contact with the Sweden soul boys and good to see them over here a few times..Also good contact with soulies in Italy,Spain etc...European crowd are much younger and new blood needed over here.... New tunes to my ears with the crossover scene... Soul-source...Met some good folk on here..Brett..Soulville,Richie,Shane,John May,Stamford,Barry Vardie and many more..Really nice people who talk with affection about the scene and the music.. Low points...Far too many soul nights now and lots of politics with every man and his dog pitching nights against each other..Crowds don't seem to travel as much because they have options closer to home... Wigan wigan..That name is still being talked about and used by some to put on commercial nights and just try and cash in...We never here as much said about Stafford and all the quality from there.....Some new blood come onto the scene with this Wigan stomper thing in there heads and then find it hard to adapt to all the other tunes being spun around the country... All the talk this year is about the price of a record and not its quality...Don't give a flying fu"k about prices...Many djs are playing tunes for there price and not there quality,i think more of a dj who can still find great records on the cheap and spin them.. Yes they can co-exist in the same room for a lot of us..60s RnB/Newies/crossover/quality oldies/modern...If you you break it down into too many fractions then we can all go out to the same place and have a good time....Whats the alternative??me and my mates all attend seperate nights every weekend because they are playing some tunes we don't like....If i get 60/70 % of the tunes to my liking then i think i have had a decent night...All them out there chasing the ultimate all-niter will never be happy...

I know Mike that some think it opens a can of worms but a lot of people on here are interested in this topic..I and others would like to know that if we are paying top dollar for a cd then we would like to think that some of the money will find its way to the writer/artist/etc...I would like to know that i and others are not being shafted...The soundtrack that i sell with soul function was done the right way and Kent follow guidelines...Its nice to think that some cash is going into the pockets of the artists that gave us what we have....Not all in the pocket of some scab that dont give a hoot....

Ban it and it will stop me chain smoking at niters...It was ok over in Dublin with people going a short walk outside to smoke but you keep throwing them away after a couple of drags when you here that tune....Yes i hope its gonna be a no smoking soul night over here soon,folk will get used to it...I fu"king hate picking up fag ends off the dancefloor...I never used to drink at niters because they had no beer but i think its a real drinking culture now and they want the bar open all night if possible...Try a drinks ban in Dublin and you would have a riot on you're hands with Wendy at the front...

The toilets make quite a difference to a lot of people,some spend a lot of the night in them..To wash,change,chat and all the rest..How far would you travel for a decent toilet???I'm with Janine on the use of public toilet seats in most places..Squatting is very good for the calf muscle....

Could be more about the venue and word of mouth then rather than the djs who are on...I think so...If Butch was only playing a few times a year then that would be more of a draw for most i take it...Good topic and good to get views from everyone...It still seems to be punters rather than promoters or djs who post stuff,any reason???I like to hear all sides..

I won't comment on that Pete because i will be thrown off the site if i really say what i think...Some folk have no imagination at all and will steal ideas from others all the time...Gonna go and have a drink because i need to calm down....Its not gonna be easy to get answers from some because they all have some shit that they know could hit the fan...They must realise that in this little community most get to hear whats going on...

I have seen John play a great crossover/modern set at the Monkey and he was top quality..john like Keith Money and a few more are very good djs and punters,they support the dancefloor and that i like..Two very nice real chaps..Thats what its all about aint it!..Big names beware the others have got the tunes tooooooooooo and you know it...I think its harder to play a small venue than a large one.... Its not hard to play big oldie after big oldie and keep the floor full at big venues,piece of piss me thinks..

Could you please name the CDS that are pirates because some of us don't know the difference and would like to ask the man in the shop why he is charging £13.99 for something like that...If you can please name them then we can get a copy and copy it ourselves and just give them away to people..I got into soul music in 81 and Kent records took a hold for me and many of my mates..When i pay good money for a kent album/cd i got quality..In the music and in the booklet or sleeve notes/packaging and they are something to keep forever..Too many thing i see now with no sleevenotes or info and still charging top dollar..

I have said before on this forum that so called big names can no longer make me or my mates travel..When you could onlyn see a certain dj play a few times a year then yes you would go out of you're way but not now,they play out every week and some do 2 or 3 venues in a weekend..Why go a great distance to see a dj who will be playing near you sometime soon...Views on hear will differ depending on who you are,Dexter just talks about size =quality all the time on here,thats his business but he won't get a lot of people on here in his camp because we can get our enjoyment among a crowd of 150 or less because our love for the music comes before profit..We are different animals..There are so many people out there now with great collections and i want to hear them,fresh faces will bring fresh sounds,thats what its like for me..I love to run the Ducie Bridge and give spots to people who have never had a chance to play at soul nights,they bring extra passion because someone gave them a chance..I and a lot of others know that these djs can compete with so called big names and they know it too...So at the end of the day the big promoters will not agree with others on here...I have had soul djs come from overseas and play to 1000 people and the next night they got to play in a small bar with just 30 people there,they told me that to play in that small bar and just play what they loved without playing washed out tunes was fantastic...I want passion from people i see out on the soul scene,big hearts not big wallets count for me...Keith Money,Butch,Carl Willingham are the 3 for me at the moment...
