Urgently Wanted: Superglue
Yeah like that, really good, made us laugh at this end! ps......have decided you are quite perceptive. It normally takes about 10 mins to get to know me, then form a view that I'm a smart ass. You've managed to shave about 9.5 minutes off the process. Record handling is obviously not your bag.......thought about a career in Human Resources?

Urgently Wanted: Superglue
Thought about posting up the Salvadors.....but couldn't find that one. Put it in a frame & stick it on the wall. Just like I've done with Moses Smith. It then looks really cool & also looks like you meant to do it. I am to record collecting what Edward Scissorhands is to flower arranging.

Evening Deeve - that Oscar?........did you nick it? Back to more serious issues Miff mentioned Heather Small. Be interested to hear what people think of this. Personally it does it for me......

Prestatyn 2005
Hi Karen - good to meet you. Cheers for the introductions over the week end. Much appreciated. Regret have to agree with Baz above. That record is a friggin anachronism. I have now heard it played out 3 times in 2 months. I cannot take it any more! I had been raving about Prestatyn for a few years to some mates. They surprised by popping up on the Saturday night - a 5 hour drive. That last hour was just uncomfortable for most of us. Normally I wouldn't be complaining, I'd have been off to one of the other rooms. But from what I recall they were almost all closed.

Prestatyn 2005
Musical highs for me: spots by Carl Willingham, Arthur Fenn & Steve Hobbs. Musical lows for me: The last hour on Sunday morning 7-8am. An hour that mainly consisted of 100 mph Wigan Stompers. The crowd at that time was small and after 2 all niters it basically consisted of the walking wounded. Something a little more mid tempo or spititually uplifting would have been appreciated. In the modern room Sunday evening 1 DJ started his set & then interupted his first record on 3 seperate occasions to chat & do requests. I noted that the 3rd interuption was for a dedication for a group of people who had missed the week-ender. I've never seen such an angry reaction on the dance floor. Still the highs far out weighed the lows.

Live Acts
ps .......after a cabaret performance a mate asked Martha Reeves if she'd ever considered putting 'No One There' in her live act. She denied knowing the song & was absolutely sure she hadn't recorded it!

Live Acts
Agree Gwen Owens at Prestayn......just amazing. Words can't describe it, but I was in Soul Heaven Also Martha Reeves live at Wigan..77ish? The atmosphere in there was like a cup final in a sauna! Just prior to her going on stage the crowd were chanting "One Way Out" which was a massive sound at the time. She ripped into her set and blew us all away. Near the end we were treated to an acapella cersion of "One Way Out". It had to be acapella as the band didn't know the tune & the stand in vandellas didn't know the words. Superb. Saw her again a year later in cabaret. It was awful. Her voice had changed totally. After Fleetwood & Prestayn I never want to see another soul singer at a sit down venue. Well maybe not never

Charity London-brighton Any Soul Cycling Types?
The team is up to 6 now. Prestatyn worked well as we met up for our first tactical team talk. We now have a team name & have resolved to get some T shirts printed. The Ts will of course be much better than those worn by the SSDCT

What Great Weekend
A truly awesome weekend. I'd also like to reiterate some of Ian's comments and say a big thank you to the guys who organised it. Must have taken a massive effort. It was a pleasure to meet Mike (aka the voice of reason) & many others 'faces' from Soul Source. Twas also good to meet some of the SSDCT regulars who normally lurk in the basement section of this site. In my infrequent visits to that section of the site I had come to the conclusion that the light was not always fully on down there. Well let me just say that I was pleasantly surprised. I was told that 2000 people have rebooked for next year. Thats 50% of capacity which is some testament. There were a couple of negatives which I might post up later.....or which I might post tomorrow, the day affectionately known to us daaarn saaarf as "Suicide Tuesday"

Politics On The Scene
Just skipped through the debate & thought I might stick my 2p in. The laws of supply & demand are fixed. They apply to the world of northern soul promotions in exactly the same way as they apply to all other promotions. Hope that makes things clearer.

Fave Blue Eyed Soul Record
I must have been wrong about the origination of the term 'Blue Eyed Soul' First heard by me in the 70s, but as mentioned by a few people - in use much earlier. Not the first time I've been 10 years behind the times. Won't be the last.

Tracks You Associate With Yate
"Never went and never wanted to go, everyone knows that people from that area are the most unfriendly in the country" Never a good idea to generalise. Especially when you can't back it up. What about those people who travelled 100+ miles to make up the crowd? Are they tainted by association?
