  1. Post from cover up: "Is "blue-eyed" a more politically correct way of saying "white"? I always find this form of inverted racism slightly bizarre, since generally the people who won't listen to "white" records usually ARE white..." Bloody hell mate - you think too much!! The term blue eyed soul first became a sort of generic term in the early 70s. I think it was the name of an album by Biddu Orchestra. Biddu was asian. Inverted racism, what a crap comment. This is a pleasant discussion about some favourite records, or it was until you wound me up.

Well apart from that......... I thought she was brilliant live! She was a little nervous which was to be expected. Her voice was superb live. I hope someboby gives her a second bite.
  3. Thanks for posting the jimmy beaumont track. Hadn't heard that before, so was good to hear. Dean Parish has one of the most amazing voices. However I now think that I regret seeing him in concert. It was just a surreal experience. It was impossible to take it in. That voice, that sound coming from a man who looked like my uncle Tony. Hope that doesn't actually put anyone off going to see him, I just found it incomprehensible.

Thanks for info Dave, assume Levine handled the production as well. Nick, thanks for sound file. The sound comes across as a bit fuzzy on my mac, but much appreciated anyway.

Saw Ebony Alleyne live at Fleetwood a couple of years ago. At the time I beleive she had a whole album in the can for a 'major' label. Then outcomes the attached single pressed on a look alike Okeh label pressed by Levine (?) Maybe I got that bit wrong. Anyone got any other info on what became of Ebony? Assume the album is still in the can.....but I beleive a second single was issued. Any one got an mp3? Cheers
  6. OOps screwed up here, maybe Mike will delete one of the posts
  7. Whats your Fave Blue Eyed Soul Record? Mine is this bit of 'modern soul' Don't know much about it & never heard it played out. The un-named female backing singer is obviously black & steals the show!

  9. Vic Reeves does it better
  10. Wigan was a dog house, the Dome is a dog house. Sometimes it just adds to the fun...unless you actually have to use the loos. At the other end of the scale you have Cagneys in Bournemouth. That's like dancing in the toilets at Harrods. Not that I do that too often.
  11. Tricky one that. Attaching a sound file below. Record is a dancers delight, but may be offensive to soul fans! Not sure if it got played out much.
  12. Worst venue is any venue where the dance floor has the markings of a badminton court.
  13. Good point Epic. I guess some people just choose to wear blinkers. Must be some sort of retro fashion thing.
  14. Rich, thanks for info. Janine, what can I say........too much sun lately?

He should have also pointed out that digging a hole & filling it with £10 notes, would also have been the cheaper option
  17. Some of it is just awesome, but finding it is the main problem I've encountered. Been up to Vinyl Junkies in Soho a couple of times, but its a case of play through about 30 twelve inchers befote find one soulful enough. Anyone got any suggestions - either where else to go or commercially available cd comps?

Horses!.......don't get me started on horses. I bought a horse once. Just prior to buying it a mate said..."you'll have more fun if you go out into the back garden, dig a big hole & fill it up with £10 notes." He was so right.
  19. Also check out Pete-S for modern soul records. Although rumour has it that most of his good modern soul records are broken

Hang on to that 'Get out of jail' card Spend too long in the chemists shop ur gonna need it! Looking back i think a 'Get out of hospital' card would have been handy. Oooh what good luck - i've won 50 quid in a dance competition.......now we are going off into the realms of fantasy.
  21. Actually had a test pressing of this. Les Mc the guy who ran the label gave it to me. If I can find it you can have it. Although its very possible that during one of my more creative moments it got turned into an ash tray. Which is sort of weird 'cos I don't smoke.

How about Wiganopoloy. The 'Old Kent Road' could be replaced by the 'Chemist Shop' etc etc.
