Not one for retro clothing, except during carnival time here, but if you're really interested in wearing gear like that, why not have 'em made at a tailors? back in the 70's, I used to go to burtons. you paid a bit more, but could have them exactly how you wanted them, specifying things like the cloth, sewn in pleats & creases, turnups, tunnel loops etc; I never bought a pair of spencers 'cos I always favoured a more conservative, simpler trew. I think the widest I ever went was 32", which is pretty wide anyway. my last pair were made of dark grey harris tweed and itched like hell. looked great with the old black brogues, tie & waistcoat though.

what do you think? small 45, matrix not stamped, but etched in & it's on what appears to be vinyl with a molded on label too. came in a company sleeve, which threw me. there's been a lot of debate about Okeh reissues & boots recently.

if you look at the clip 'Aussie Singers', you'll see her performing on TV in the 60's, surrounded by mods. I always found 'stranger in my arms' a bit on the 'girly' side for my tastes, but it's an atmospheric track & a classic nonetheless. RIP Lynne.

Never understood that programme. How could people allow themselves to be mauled by two fat trouts with absolutely no dress sense? also pretty pointless exporting the show, what with different attitudes to what is construed as dress sense. incidentally, in continental europe brits are considered lousy dressers. good clothes at the top end but no idea how to use them seems to be the concensus.

I don't think stopping people from moving about is the answer either. last summer in gij³n, they threw open the central patio at about 4am & there was an exodus outide. those that wanted to remain on the dancefloor remained on the dancefloor, no big deal. people just went backwards & forwards from the two 'pistas' to the patio. it was more a case of escaping the heat than anything else, 'cos here, as I said before, the smoking ban, in practice, doesn't seem to work.

I think we're using & abusing the term fascism here. Fascism is torch-lit parades in Nuremburg, bombs falling on Guernika & Durango & dwarves trying to resuscitate the Roman Empire. Tony Blair isn't Adolf, however much some of you may insist. I suppose the carping will continue when Cameron gets elected. The great British Public has a long standing habit of turning on its elected government. It's quite amusing watching it from here.
