Vg, But Good For Djing
hadn't looked at it from that angle pete. I'd have thought that today's equipment was state of the art, not like those mobile discotheques years ago. so you're saying you'd use a 2nd copy for you most expensive tunes?

Vg, But Good For Djing
what exactly does this mean? the record is 'sonically' poor & you more than likely wouldn't give it house room, but it is deemed ok to subject dancers to it at a venue. isn't that a little inconsiderate? what are dealers trying to tell potential punters with this snippet of advice? mac.

Mel Wynn - I Don't Want To Lose You Wand 1189
thanks martin. I remember you from st.ives you know. we used to chat often...

Would You Play These
I'm a big van fan & even though he has graced northern dancefloors in the past, I can't quite see 'precious time' in the same context. what about his live version of ain't nothing you can do? a stormer. & redwood tree off 'st.dom's preview? maybe I'm dreaming...

Would You Play These
are you casting aspersions on my good taste young fellow? yes I did play interplay. it was to see if it was as awful as I remember. haven't you ever been bitten by the midge of curiosity? the shredder thing was in reference to earth wind & fire & the like. I'd rather listen to derek & ray than 'september' or 'boogie wonderland'. didn't somebody mention EW&F or am I losing the plot? macca.

Quick Change Artist
what a nice thread! I would say to the newly arrived brethren, 'don't ever lose your sense of humour'. taking something deadly seriously & not losing one's sense of humour are not entirely incompatible. things I would have changed? the widespread abuse of barbiturates at one point back in the late 70's. I saw some shocking scenes on that front. & on a more jovial note, full time plumbers on attendance so we wouldn't have had to resort to waders when tackling the seriously grim all-nighter bogs. how are things over there these days, bog wise?

2 Qustions
domino is tremendous. the caledonian soul orchestra, wasn't it? I do find al de lory's 'take' on it a bit limp in comparison. van does a mean version of bobby bland's 'ain't nothing you can do' as well. bobby's original is cracker though. van's alright with me. shoot me down in flames...

Would You Play These
they'd go down a shredder even better.

John Manship Records
I think he means it's very good. if I said the taj mahal was the real deal, I wouldn't be casting aspersions on the mumtaz or bombay brasserie, they're equally valid. the popadoms might be better at the mumtaz, but you can beat the chicken tikka massala at the brasserie. some might prefer the shah jehan anyway... macca

Kev Roberts Myspace
to be fair, it does say 'created the music choice' on his home site. or shouldn't we be fair? maybe I'm straying into a cabbage patch... macca.

The Best Clapping Tunes
I used to like billy woods 'let me make you happy' for its clappability, specially on the sha-la-la-la-la bit... tremendisimo. macca.

Proper Soulies
never ever have been comfortable with that term. it sounds more like an affliction than anything else, like beri-beri, rickets, palsy, scrapey etc; is there a human form of scrapey?

More Dreadful Repro 45s
it's very easy to be taken in though. remember those lou pride repros on suemi? we had firm assurances that they were legit reissues. sometimes it's difficult. is there a failsafe method in order to determine whether they are legit issues or not? one thing is a bonafide uk release on a recognisable major label, another is a lookalike job on a long dormant US label, for example. I often wonder... macca

More Dreadful Repro 45s
I can't imagine why anybody would be interested in such tat. I'd have a third reich style public burning of all this stuff. I would even invite dealers to stop selling 're-issues', '2nd issues' etc; but then again I am a detective chief inspector in the aaaargh.... soul police... flog me, flog me...

Ebay - When Something Isn't What It's Made Out To Be
guy came back to me. gonna refund my dish. all a terrible mistake. he bought the record off a dealer in the 70's as a bonafide original, didn't think to double check before sticking it on ebay. could happen to anybody I guess. all's well that ends well... M

Heard This (joe Hinton) And Thought, I'll Have One Of Those
tremendous record. had one & sold it, which I now regret. it was going for up to 75 sovs about 2 years ago. don't think it's all that rare, just due to its demand. macca.
