** Eddie Kirkland & Falcons On Lupine 801 **
Hi everyone I have this 45 described as rare doo wop 1st press - rare oddball 45 not in price guide. Eddie Kirkland & Falcons - Train Done Gone/I Tried (Lu Pine 801). It certainly appears on Lu Pine listings I have seen. Can anyone comment on whether this is an original, has ever been pressed, or could be a later repro release please? Cheers Richard

An Expert Eye With Collectors Knowledge Needed
Go here to a previous thread with a John Manship assessment. Here are my descriptions from an old Soul Talk post (June 2008) of both copies. There had also been an earlier thread on this on Soul talk from April 2007. Hi all I have two copies of the issue copy of Lee Rogers on Premium Stuff #6 - Sock Some Love Power To Me/The Same Things That Make You Laugh (Make You Cry). The first copy, which is a definite original, has a mid yellow label design and the dead wax markings #8-10 and #250 which are the master numbers as printed on the label and are heavily scratched in. The second copy has a darker, old gold, yellow label (the print etc. is identical to the first copy) and the print looks a little 'sprayed on'. Unlike the first record described, the dead was is quite wide (about the same width as the grooves) with about 6 fairly close-together run off grooves. The vinyl is also pretty thin and is overall lighter in weight than the first disc. The dead wax markings on this second 45 are small and very lightly scratched in on the A side 8-10 340 83-2 and on the B side 250 83-1 340. Whenever I have asked anyone they say this 45 wasn't booted, and Manship's guide does not list it. However, I think this is a boot. Cheers Richard

Stormer, Floater, Stomper
One of my fave clips - and how 'soulful' a dancer is the Major - what a superb under-stated mover - proper Northern dancing - and a genuine 'shuffle' too IMO

Top drawer O'Jays - Working On Your Case (Minit)

** O'jays - Working On Your Case **
Hi everyone The O'Jays Working On Your Case has always been one of my all time favourite 'proper' Northern records. Have always thought of this as one of their West Coast rather than Detroit recorded numbers. However, the arrangement is credited (both sides of the 45) to Herbie Williams (Pied Piper) I presume this was arrangement only, but anyone know whether there was a closer Detroit connection on this one please? Totally top class drumming Cheers Richard

** Dramatics - Your Love Was Strange **
Right - thanks for the info everyone - but confused now so just checking stuff So - got to be the first version - yes? On mix/collectability - got to be the promo? Have looked in Refo for the different versions but can't see what's what - can anyone clarify those, or post up clips of specific versions to compare please? Cheers Richard

Stormer, Floater, Stomper
Reading through various threads on here and stuff elsewhere it struck me that the staple descriptions of our beloved records such as Stormer, Floater, Stomper didn't always match up with what I thought they meant. Can anyone shed any light on what these terms actually mean and any differences to set them apart - it's obviously not just about speed of the record and the associated dancing style that goes with it - or is it? Cheers Richard

Ray Gant - Dont Leave Me Baby
And very similar in the backing but not the lyrics to Willie Kendrick - What's That On Your Finger on RCA Victor (and Kenny Carter's unissued version of that song). Cheers Richard

** Roy Major On Autocap **
Hi everyone Picked this one up recently. Roy Major - Trying To Find A Way (Autocap) Not a big fan of R&B but I quite like this one. Anyone tell me anything else about it - other than what is on the label please? This scan from Popsike shows the label was a subsidiary of Lando Records and it has Dale Warren on credits. Anyone tell me anything about Roy Major please? Has this ever really made it on the Northern (R&B) scene? Cheers Richard
