Opinions - Counterfeit Or Genuine?
Manships Bootleg Guide has this as a counterfeit despite the stamped matrix (which is a fake apparently) Plus some copies also have those DJ Stickers stuck on to convince Cheers Richard

Does Size Matter
Someone asked me the other day and I had no idea how big mine was I know the collection is several thousand but I really have no idea at all - they are just all over the house - but tidy! Doesn't matter if you know where I live - you would die if you tried to take 'em - Bruce Lee styleee Enough info on my 45s though for sure Cheers Richard

What Is Crossover?
I know you know this ... but anyway A splitter divides things endlessly into detailed categories - e.g. mid-60s, Detroit, non-Motown, mid-tempo, girl group, promo release only etc etc A lumper looks at the generic categories and keeping clumping things together into big groups (e.g. crossover) Like I said - I knew you already knew that Cheers Richard
-
What Is Crossover?
Is that just it? Or am I a crossover conspiracy theorist? I'm going to look at that "oooh nurse, it's another crossover Friday" thread and see how many so-called crossover are just northern or modern You guys ... Not convinced yet Cheers Richard
-
What Is Crossover?
C Cheers Sean - but my point was that there is loads of stuff described as 'crossover' that isn't - it's one or the other - is it a lazy category or just getting broader as it get's more mainstream? I am a splitter not a lumper!! Cheers Richard

What Is Crossover?
Hi all I have been listening to and collecting rare northern since I was 17 (I'm now 47) Not a club-goer though since the early 80s, which might explain what follows to those of you who are . . . It struck me that I don't really know what crossover is - I couln't define it properly or explain it to someone In between northern and modern I thought - in between 60s and 70s I thought - stuff like Ruby Andrews - Just Loving You maybe? - not quite 60s or Modern - just in between - transitional - crossover But the kind of stuff I have seen in recent months described as crossover just puzzles me - as a lot of it sounds either solid late 60s or definitely modern - so what is is crossover then? Help me out guys - I'm stumped - isn't it just easier to say it's 60s, 70s, 80s etc? Cheers Richard

Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
Good man! I agree wholeheartedly - and Stafford was my favourite period actually - when soul returned to Northern Soul Cheers Richard
-
Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
Exactly mate - the whole premise of the programme was wrong - would go far as to say it was even a bag of shite They should have worked on it properly - planned, scripted, researched it - in fact they could/should have done the (first) best 4 hour Northern Soul show on the radio ever that we could have all been proud of - including of course a 1 hour slot for sounds requested by listeners Did they even play the worst ever Northern record as promised anyway? - maybe I missed it Failed to step up to the plate IMO Cheers Richard
-
Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
OK guys - so ... 1) which of the records played by Kev and Richard absolutely knocked your socks off then - and which would you be proud to play to a non-soulie as an exemplar of true Northern Soul? 2) Did you think it was a decent use of 4 hours to showcase today's Northern Soul 3) What would you have played? The same? Not my thing at all Richard
-
Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
Mate it was sh*t They played 4 hours of nostalgic, not-very-soulful, out-of-date stuff that I'm not interested in, and is not today's Northern/Rare soul I retract that statement slightly as Jack Montgomery - Dearly Beloved comes on Best record of the night - but a baseline 45 I expect to be hearing from these two innovative and pinnacle DJs of the Northern scene Richard
-
Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
Plus I texted twice to ask for Jackey Beavers on Revilot and the f***ers ignored me Oh well I think very many of us could have done a lot better than that - given 4 hours and a decent box of vinyl or CDs Cheers Richard

Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
Sorry guys and gals but this does nothing for me at all Queen Of Fools, Time Will Pass You By (OK, yes, great record), Out On The Floor, Do I Love You (Ineed I Do), Unsatisifed, The Snake, What, Tainted Love, Long After Tonight Is All Over, I'm On My Way etc etc etc For me, this was a real, real missed opportunity 4 hours available of (as Kev and Richard keep saying) national exposure for Northern Soul - so tell it like it is not lke it was Retrpospective, nostalgic, backward-looking rubbish In 4 hours you can do a lot - including, of course, a 1 hour retrospective for the nostalgists and people no longer active - but please, please use 3 hours for how the scene is now and will be in the future. This was 3.5 hours wasted IHVFHO - not just for Northern people now, but also IMO for potential scene recruits I think the show tells the wider audience nothing real about about real Northern/Rare soul as it is now, or will be in the future Why thank you - Mr Angry on the other end of the radio Richard

Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
I'm listening in too mate and realised I could get it on the proper radio on FM instead of just the internet - which is cool Would like to hear a few more unusual things though - rather than just Epitome of Sound, Dobie Gray, Mel Britt, Wilie Mitchell, Judy Street etc. Let's see how it develops - beats the usual radio whatever Cheers Richard
-
Kev Roberts And Richard Searling On Smooth
