Gracie Darnell On Ruth
Hi everyone Looking for some information about Gracie Darnell - So Long Lover/The Bad Guys on Ruth 101 please. Seems to be another disc with unclear Detroit and/or Chicago origins. As I understand it the label was owned by Ollie McLaughlin and was named after his wife. McLaughlin is credited on the label, as is songwriter Sharon McMahan. Wasn't Gracie a Chicago artist though? One side is featured on the following Chicago compilation on Goldmine: I would tend to classify this as Detroit - but perhaps it's a bit of both cities? Are the other releases on Ruth also thought of as either Detroit or Chicago? At least one of them credits McLaughlin. Grateful for any information please. Cheers Richard

Gary Dean On Young
Hi everyone Can anyone tell me anything about Gary Dean who recorded "You Can Say" on Young records please, or about Young records? I don't really know anything about Gary Dean except that he is a blue-eyed vocalist. I know there were 1 or 2 other releases on Young, but that's about it. Anyone have a street address for the label please? Cheers Richard

The Superlatives - Won't You Please - Dynamics 1012
That said Dynamics #1011 was reissued because it was re-mixed. This is most easily spotted from the fact that one of the issues only has a single line border to the box round the label name, rather than the usual two (as shown in the scans above). Cheers Richard

Al Gardner - Sweet Baby - Has A Box Turned Up?
As Lorraine rightly pointed out bootlegging is the illegal use of distribution of someone else's material. So if Jack et al did not give permissions for the material to be used or distributed I would argue they are bootlegs Cheers Richard

Al Gardner - Sweet Baby - Has A Box Turned Up?
Hi Lorraine Thanks very much for the clarification - it's interesting stuff. There were two Eddie Parker releases, so I am guessing the official release authoriesed by Jack was 'Love You Baby' and then the others were unofficial/unauthorised - so I guess one could/should call them bootlegs (albeit on an official label Googa Mooga)? Thanks Richard

Martha Starr - No Part Time Love For Me
It's Martha Star by the way rather than Starr (which is Edwin) Cheers Richard

Al Gardner - Sweet Baby - Has A Box Turned Up?
I have the Al Gardner and both the Eddie Parker 45s on this label - all with picture sleeves. On Al Gardner The GooDA Mooga spelling is only on the 45 label. The picture sleeve says GooGa Mooga. There is nothing I can see from a quick look which suggests it is not legit. The picture sleeve even has the little 'tear off' paper tab inside like the other releases. Cheers Richard

Win Bridlington Weekender Tickets Supporting Help For Heroes and World Record Attempt
WIN TICKETS FOR BRIDLINGTON WEEKENDER - PRIZE DRAW SUPPORTING HELP FOR HEROES & GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT You could win tickets for the Bridlington Weekender in a charity prize draw for Soul Source members to help raise money for Help for Heroes. Two pairs of Bridlington Weekender tickets for the prize draw have been very kindly donated by the East Coast Soul Collective. As well as being a life time collector of rare soul records, Soul Source member Richard Johnstone (a.k.a. Premium Stuff) is also keen martial artist. On 31 March, Richard and a team from his Kung Fu School led by Si-Fu Julian Hitch will be attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for participating in the World's longest ever continuous martial arts class. The group aims to train continuously for an unbelievable 36 hours and hopes to raise a minimum of £20,000 for Help for Heroes, making a real difference to those injured from our Armed Forces. Each member of the team will train continuously for the full 36 hours - or until they drop! This is not a relay event! To enter the prize draw to win a pair of tickets to the Bridlington Weekender all you have to do is: 1) Make a donation (minimum £5 please - but more if you wish) on Richard's fundraising page at: http://www.bmycharit...itchMaseRichard 2) Then send a Private Message with your name and address to Richard (Premium Stuff) on Soul Source so he can register you into the prize draw. The winners of the two pairs of tickets will be announced on Soul Source in the week commencing Monday 2 April - shortly after the Guinness World Record attempt. All Soul Source members who have already donated will be automatically entered into the prize draw. The Bridlington Northern Soul Weekender will take place on Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th June 2012. Tickets priced at an amazing £25 each are available now online from the Bridsoul website http://www.bridsoul.com, The Spa Box Office (no booking fee) Tel: 01262 67825, and by post from ECSC, PO BOX 590, CUDWORTH, BARNSLEY S72 8WX. Richard would like to thank Pat Brady, Robert Wickes and Rob Wigley of the East Cost Soul Collective for generously donating the tickets for the prize draw and for supporting him in this exceptional endurance challenge. Thank you and good luck!
