Levine Manifesto Interview
That's the crux of the matter. Everyone except Ian has moved on. Whilst his massive contribution to the scene 30 plus years ago is unquestionable - he currently has no influence on the scene other than as a bit of a laughing stock to some people. Unfortunately for Ian, he doesn't have either the good grace or common sense to know when he is on a hiding to nothing, and that by being a little more humble he could have made his mark again. Insulting everyone on Soul Source has done him no favours, in fact it's probably galvanised ill feeling towards him, and brought a few more 'anti' Levine members into the camp. He's making himself into a very bitter and sad individual, for the sake of his mental health I'd recommend that he dropped any connection with the 'Northern Soul' scene and concentrate on something more positive.

45,s That Play At 33rpm
Some jukeboxes operate at 33rpm. There's loads of Brazilian and Argentinian 33rpms presumably because the U.S. Jukebox manufacturers and suppliers dumped all of their old units on the South American markets. If your producing records to go into JBs and sell to the public then it makes sense to keep costs down by pressing them all up at the same speed - 33 being the most popular on that continent.

More Sad News, Theresa Carden From Leeds
Very sad... I remember going to Keele with Paul from Sheffield and the Three Theresas. The car broke down just outside Sandbach services and we all had to push it up the slip road.. with each one of them peeling off as the strain got too much... It ended up with me pushing it and Theresa sat inside steering. Not seen her for years then she turned up at the Wilton looking no different to the last time I had seen her, and to be honest she didn't look to well then. Such a shame.

Try finding a copy of David Morris on Radnor.... Its the same cut exactly, and has a decent Northernish flip as well.

Collections Within Collections
Action label releases (45 and LP) - got all of the LPs (I think) and I'm short either two or three of the 45s... Harrold Burrage 45s... only a few of his pre 1963 releases to get. Onederful / Mar-v-lus / M-pac / Toddlin' Town (quite a few spaces in these).

A record shop in Sheffield was offered a handfull (not five - literally a hand full) at £8 a pop but turned them down. I missed the one copy that they had bought for £20. Ended up paying about £60 for one a month later, this was around 1999?

Different mixes...

Marvin Gaye
Short version. Motown made these for a business convention in limited numbers. Delegates were given a copy each - loads were left behind and 'swept up' by Janitors as most record execs don't have the means to play them. Comes in a authentic 60s style sleeve, but catalogue numbers are obviously modern.
