In A Starbucks... About To Start Dancing
Yes! It does seem they are EXTREMELY into the Chess/Checker/Cadet/Argo catalogue (blues, R&B, as well as soul) ...also, off-topic, is your user name "Eulalie" a reference to Jeeves and Wooster? Just curious. Or is it a common British term/name?

In A Starbucks... About To Start Dancing
I am sitting in a Starbucks in California right now. "Love's Gone Bad" by Chris Clark just finished, and now "baby don't you weep" by Edward Hamilton is playing. Is Starbucks about to enter the Northern Soul business? Have other's noticed rare soul being played at one?

Bob Abrahamian R.i.p
always took time to answer my questions. never made me feel silly, no matter how trivial my questions were. or lack of knowledge. wish there were more like him. not just on the soul scene - but in the world.

What Are You Spinning At Home ?
i teach at a military institution (for mid-career officers) and DJ for fun at local cafes/pubs etc. my students come to my sets with their wives, but they don't know the music - so i make free sampler CDs for them to get a taste of soul/funk. here is a 12-song set i just burned 30 copies of for my guys (and been listening to myself): Dorothy and the Hesitations - work out a plan Willie Gresham and the Free Food Tickets - step by step Charles Brimmer - feeling is in my heart Little Archie - all i have to do Velvet Hammer - happy Mel Britt - she'll come running back Pearlean Gray - i don't want to cry Shirley and Jessie - you can't fight love Betty Moorer - speed up Thelma Jones - here comes the heartbreak De Vons - someone to treat me (way you used to) Festivals - you got the makings of a lover

Am I Just Cranky? Does This Seem Uncool?

Am I Just Cranky? Does This Seem Uncool?
I'm sorry if this is a soul-source member, but this seems kinda lame to me. ...selling the companies sleeves separate from the record? come on bro! https://www.ebay.com/sch/theworldofcitrine/m.html?item=151243621681&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

"only Your Love Can Save Me" Bettye Lavette - Multiple Recordings?
the calla version played here is the same recording as the stateside i listed in the first post. i swear to god, however, that i have heard another calla copy that differs at seconds 38-40 (where, instead of staggering out the words "on-ly your love" - she says them at a faster clip. i am waiting to see if i can get the copy that has the different vocal phrasing and post a clip. i promise i am not crazy!

"only Your Love Can Save Me" Bettye Lavette - Multiple Recordings?
I just heard a couple of files of this song. they seem to differ in the refrain; how she paces the words "only your love" at the end each verse. this is the one i am familiar with and the other one i heard was on US Calla and seemed to differ from the other in the refrain (like at seconds 38-40 of the youtube posted one). is that true of all of the Calla ones?
