People Fighting On The Soul Scene At Soul Night
Or alternatively swearing? It's nothing to do with the site owners, some of us just like a gossip and to reminiscence, which sometimes give us a laugh. This is our playground and there's a lot of big kids about who enjoy playtime. As Ty Karim would sing it, Lighten Up Baby.

Kent Records
Hi Martyn, Funnily enough someone's doing a book on the history of Ace Records which will contain quite a lot on Kent but there is enough for a separate Kent book with all the stories of how things did or didn't come about. Unfortunately it would be too time consuming at the moment so I'll have to save it for my retirement which will probably coincide with our Golden Jubilee! Cheers Ady

Ian Clark-top Man Or What
Nice thread Dave and particularly well timed with Ian's disappointment at not having been able to make Kent's 25th. Ian was a major part of Kent and 6TS early success in that vital time that got us off the ground and established us as a major soul scene. His graphics for the flyers and Kent LPs were inspirational and unique, thereby giving us a rewcognised image; classy, wacky and fun. His record collection was up there with the best of them and he always had his ear to the ground for new discoveries and hot tips. He crossed right across the soul spectrum and the emphasis was always more on soul than the beat so he fitted in perfectly with Randy and eventually my ethos. Like so many have said before on Soul Source, i'm sure it was his being at the 100 Club, with that great collection, that broadened its reputation nationwide instead of just being a London based scene. Please add any more memories of Ian and his DJing, I'm sure it will give him a big boost when he particularly needs it.

People Fighting On The Soul Scene At Soul Night
I remember it as me in the lead, especially if you stopped to arm yourself! He was a sly little sod but he could run and we didn't ever get close enough to see who it was. No harm in not being aggressive Russ, I can do without the psychos before you any day mate.

People Fighting On The Soul Scene At Soul Night
Sounds about right, me Mick, Roger and Pete Wid had a hilarious scrap with some West London troublemakers down the 100 Club one night after the jazz had finished and while the soul crowd were queueing up outside. It was a case of "take your partners", they were a real anti-climax and left very sheepishly.

People Fighting On The Soul Scene At Soul Night
Damn right I was well out of the way, Randy was involved, so no surprise there. We had a handful of dust ups at the 100 Club probably about one every 5 years on average which isn't too frequent. The best involved a loudmouth, a lamp post and Portsmouth's larger than life Debbie Gillen who was underwear free that night. Let's just say she applied her own version of smelling salts to the misguided youth. There were some wilder characters about in the early days, life is a lot more peaceful nowadays thank God.

6TS at Jack's this Sat is CANCELLED
I've decided to cancel all future events at Jack's due to an unexpected increase in the rent and a decrease in the hours at the last one. I should have notified everyone well before now but Kent's 25th celebrations just took over eveything. My apologies for the very late notice. Now we are back at the 100 Club it seems people much prefer going to those dances rather than the ones at Jack's. I'd like to thank Johnny Gamlin for coming to our rescue earlier in the year with the venue, when we really needed it. The first night was brilliant about 400 people enjoying a great atmosphere in the impressive club. However there were only just over 100 at the second and perhaps 150 at the third so it's obvious that 6TS members hadn't enjoyed it as much as I thought they had, or perhaps they were just happy to be back in the 100 Club. Either way Jack's was a short but memorable experience. The next 6TS will be at the 100 Club on December 1st, 9pm-6am. The Xmas party is on Dec 20th 9pm-2am. Membership is optional for all 6TS events now. Thanks Ady
