  1. Sue Lynn Dont - Pity Me is a rare northern pop record and it hardly belongs in my collection and is only there because it was a must have sound in the 8ts price wise £125+ I guess however if you like Northern pop try getting a copy of Girl by Derek Lee on Parlaphone R5468 its a true stomper that was never played at Wigan DAVE KIL

The Gorden Gin Theme is excellant and one of if not the shortest Northern sound and very rare, it was played in Wolves circa 72 defanatly a UK collectors Jem and it still sounds good today value wise def not a sale item? DAVE KIL
  3. I think that the Fathers Angels are at least great Philadephia musitions who are better know as the Virtue backing band on many norther classics and later as MFSB the backing behind many great tune and also its rareaty as a UK single and sounds good to my ear holes but this is about yours and if you dont like it thats fine by me, DAVE KIL
  4. Hi all I have to say I have so many faces number 1 has always been Green Onions? by Booker T & the MGs as it is for most of us old gits.. However and the list is endless with such classics as Rat Race, Walking the Duck, Afternoon on a Rhino and Even Choc-ice is in there as the first time I heard it played was by Ian Levine at an all dayer at the Cats Whisker Burnley 74. my favourite is a semi instrumental by Bert Keyes that I got of Mick smith in 73..my number 1 should be the Bari Tack but that's No 2. No 1 is also a record from Mick bout in late 72 THE INNOCENT BYSTANDERS class sound FRANTIC ESCAPE That I still have on RED & WHITE ATLANTIC DEMO over the years I have had 2 Pam-line copies orange & green being far rarer but my original copy is the one I love to play and would never sell. Walking the Duck is No 3/.....there are a few naff ones as I have never had it or heard it as it would make me spew is the Dave Mcclure Disco Demand SOUNDS of LANCASHIRE version of SLICED TOMATOES/ I will enjoy this list and how it progresses DAVE KIL
  5. As you may no I have have had a close association with Mick S for many years, The classic You Just Don't Know was believed to be recorded in the UK PYE studios as hence we have a Demo and Stock copy and it was not for many years that the US west coast Parkway DEMO was Found? as there is no east coast copy I have always assumed this was pressed purley for promotional reasons after the UK recording was made I have a similar issue about Ray Pollards DRIFFTER & A SAD THING as I own a few BILLBOARDS and in 66 the Alan Freeman article clearly states that Ray had recently been to London and laid down a few tracks, he mentions the Drifter & A Sad Thing as both being recorded at Mada Vale, as this record the Drifter had a few copies made by other EMI artists this could be true and the drifter is in fact one of the best UK soul records of all time?to prove this we need to know when the US copy came out before or after the UK, but even this does not %100 prove my case? Hi a good one? Aretha Franklin by far the greatest female soul singer even on ballads and she is almost talking a song its pure magic I would love to see her live. as for male there are so many Marvin Gaye Sam Cooke Walter Jackson Wilson Picket But on record Stand By Me by Spyder Turner is one of my faves but all time record after record and for all his great songs it must be Jackie Wilson however in true rare soul collectors mind set I could easy say the same for Otis Redding I no these are predictable but they are the all the kings of soul DAVE KIL

Hi 1st boot was pale green next was a shocking pink and there have been more boots in fact I may have put these in the wrong way round it does not matter 1st boot late 73. My original has a almost grainy label and has a slice orange hue to it unlike most other copies Demos are rare and my old mate TAFFY from Letchworth had it on TAMOS a really rare record for you US collectors as to value of a stock copy well mine cost me £12 in the 7ts so you work it out must be £125+ DAVE KIL
  10. I have a few my fist copy of Gene McDaniels walk with a winner is like the one in the photo, I bout it from Pete Wid at the Casino early 77 I remember it clearly he had 6 UK issues that were £15 each Day, Mick S bout 2 of them when I found out he was selling them my copy was the last copy when we looked at it it was chipped with the broken bit in the sleeve it was a must have record for me at the time as no body really had heard it I paid £5 for it when I got home I played it and there was about half a turn of dead wax before the record started whoopee I have still got it and yes I have a RED & white DEMO but I still play it now and again to me its a priceless piece of Wigan Memorabilia and has a good provenance of nostalgic value what do you think Also I have quite a few rare US records and only £ weeks ago I was offered £150 from Rob P for it at Wolves record Fair. so the golden rule is in the real world of collecting 45s the true value is £2/5 but on the RARE RECORD SOUL SCENE it can be any thing as you may never find a copy again DAVE KIL
  11. Hi it is my strong opinion you should send it back as this is missing a large amount of vinal not as a chip that he desrcibed? as much as you want the recored it is only desirable point that if you block cover the gap you can use it to DJ with and no you are not playing a pressing sadley I would value your record at £2 only if you disagree ask a dealer to buy it of you, the dealer you got it from should refund your money and give you the record. I wish you luck and be very asertive with the so called dealer. MIND THE GAP DAVE KIL

I was talking to my mate Jim Silles Sunday who is a very knowlagable in Jamacan music about this subject he recons that apart from EMI group of lables most of the JA soul sides are infact just almost boots and pressed up by the big producers in Kingston, he also was telling me about JA LPs on US fedral label not the JA label of the same name he did give me a list but at the mo I cant find it? Hi Tony I used to own a Jamaican press SUE Record same number as UK issue and same stamp matrix No Big Jay Mcneilly? however the label was RED & BLACK instead of RED & YELLOW and had a Dink-ed centre makes you wonder if there's a Jackie Day, I gave it to Mick S years ago, I got it from a small pile of records from Andrew in NOTTS the reggae importer, I have also seen a Jimmy Thomas on Jamaican Parlophone DAVE KIL
  17. This is true thats how we got our first imports the Arther Dailys bought them realy cheap hopeing they were pop records and make a mint however we no that they could not get rid of them and it was places like Moors in Luton & Leiton Buzzard, Selecta Disc and so on got hold of them the maine Port was Liverpool and South Wales hence the big change in record policy in clubs like the Wheel and the Night Owl in Liecester DAVE KIL
  18. For those of us who collect UK labels and UK only soul from the 6ts, (And I must point out that I don't know the seller) there's a really nice copy on EBAY with no bids...This classic record was quite popular a few years ago, however to own a copy in this condition is very rare and a must have in the old box, I first heard this song at the Flamingo in Wardour St in early 68 it is a UK recording on the very rare Doctor Bird off shoot label Direct DS 5002 B B/w I DONT WANT which is the proper A side which is a classic MOD sound and in my opinion brilliant brings back memories of the suites in the West End Wareing 3/4 leathers and bottle green crew neck jumpers from Austin Reeds? In the last 40yrs since I have been collecting I have only had a few copies and most of the were in crap condition ripped labels writing on them no centre, even top Reggae collectors who collect Doctor Bird label have not got it? The Question I here you asking why am I telling every one about it why not by it and sell it myself the answer is I think that this record should be in the hands of true collectors whatever that means not in the hands of dealers as I am a Soulful Person and I don't want to here I wanted that record as for true value well its got to be rarer than Vala Regan on red Atlantic ain't it? by the way I have my own mint copy Its a classic RAM JAM CLUB BRIXTON SOUND RAM RAM RAM GO MAN GO!****EBAY item150332395969 as I say a must have record if you collect UK DAVE KIL

  20. My close mate Jim Silles in London a few years ago now, won a Ray Barreto single on a Peruvian label, it came from a very small town/village in Peru and only took 7 days to reach him, however in these days we are so used to having records in mailers and I have a couple of times received records wrapped in the middle of 2 pieces of wood, his record came in a very thin envelope with Peruvian stamps covering it no protection packaging. the envelope looked like something picasso would have done and we had the vision of a man wearing a bowler hat and Pancho riding on a donkey over the mountains to the city? and how it survived the airmail service is any ones guess and then the Royal Mail sorting office and I forgot to mention it was pressed on styrene? this is true story and as I am a quick payer on auction sites I have had to wait over 1 month to receive a record from a UK dealer who requests you leave positive feedback for me I will do the Same for you which pisses me of every time, I always think of Jim and his Peruvian record.
