Talking About Jackie Edwards 45's
HI ALL A couple of things to say about Jackie's records the Aladdin 45s are all worth having as part of the ISLAND / SUE Records as I think they were all played on the original release dates in the SOHO SCENE, However the "i just don't know" was very hard for me to get, but if you do find a copy, unless it gets the attention from the rare soul scene, it should be cheap to buy? WI-601 I have left behind many times, in-fact I have a VG copy spare for £3.50, also I I should mention his "I must go back" on HORSE, This was a big play in 76 & still sounds good, my definition of rare is based on can a get a copy without buying it from a dealer and also have records that dealers don't no? Can You Id The Source Of Film
HI ALL Pete just reading this through again, first thing gethro is india doing well for himself in the USA and for ages years I wondered what happened to him, as he was so well known outside of Wolves? Again I am really**seed of that the SUPER 8 FILM I shot from inside the CASINO, Has never been seen by myself and all of you, And I find that the fact that Tom Hassett does not give a response to what happened to it, IAN (TAFFY)GUY and others from LETCHWORTH have all seen it, and maybe even further afield, it was still in TOMS possession in the early 90s as it was one of the first things I asked him about, he informed me that he was going to Gert it transferred onto CD ? What I find as spurious about the where abouts of the film, is the lack of detail from those who have seen it, also I can't think why TAFFY MICK or even AIID POTTS did not get copies, as if I had stayed and not moved to Wolves, I certainly would have got a copy, so why did nobody down there do the same, in fact if any one on soul source was on a film from WIGAN am I right in thinking that you would want a copy of your own? I get off at the fact that I am on the GRANADA FILM, It would be helpful if Taffy or indeed any one from LETCHWORTH could tell us more, as I find it hard to accept it was lost? DAVE

Are Dj Bookings/spots Incestuous?
HI ALL As I recently played a few records at the sad event of the passing of HELEN, Which was the first spot since the BLACK HORSE days with PEP, I have received positive feedback from many people, who have gone out of there way to tell me how enjoyable it was, long gone are the days trying to compete with the top boys, and far to much money wasted on chemicals, but I would love to be asked to spin some of the rare NORTHERN SOUL from my collection and even the not so rare, as most of my stuff has not been played for years it has become new stuff again, as I am to proud to ask (old school) I will wait for the day to come around just like most collectors DAVE

Talking About Jackie Edwards 45's
HI ALL All of Jackie's records were played at either Jamaican or Win-dies CLUBS ON RELEASE, & as such most were played in London's MOD CLUBS and early all-nighter, as you will be aware, both "come on home" & "feel so bad" got played at the ALL-NIGHT clubs in the midlands & the north, with equal success, and as for rarity there is no difference between them 2, however from 72 onwards "feel so bad" has been the one that the northern soul crowd chose to be the #1 and that's why the price has gone through the roof, but many of Jackie's recordings are rarer, as I recall it was his recording of "keep on running! that was not released as a UK 45, got to be one of the first records to sell above shop prices, in fact at one time it was the biggest (why Chubby Checkers "at the Discotheque gets the attention? I Just Don't Know" another record that is Rare, is his SUE WI-328 STAGGER LEE B/W PRETTY GIRL, it is the B side of this recording that makes this one of the must have SUE records, and even though it is more rarer than the ISLAND records, it suffered from the fact it was only played (not exclusively) at the Scene TILES Flamingo Club, Ram Jam club and not many other clubs that attracted the MOD scene, While I am writing this, I feel I must remind some of the younger ones of you, when considering records the are Pre Northern Soul and have a Jamaican connection, you have to remember the price of records back then, the culture of the time, particular with Jamaican Music as for most records pre 68 they were not made for any white people it was music from there home, also the fact that most records become popular through sound systems, the high majority of the records were disposable (just like the Chicago scene, idance fact Jamaicans to this day love the Chicago sounds, this becomes evident in ROCK STEADY,) And the complete opposite to the above, those people who did buy records back then, in the 6T's will and do covert every one, the fact that the kids used Daddy's records as frisbee, but my experience is they are extremely hard to deal with, you may find some rare records the good old white guy approach does not work at all? The records on other labels are indeed much rarer, but that's not a recommendation from me, to get you all looking for them as I say the best are known and he also done some s**t that he liked as the rare stuff is on the B sides, also it is a matter of taste, my favorite record by Jackie is on ALADIN WI611 "I DON'T KNOW" because of it's rarity this obscure side was left in the hands of the in-crowd, in fact Ranking Johnny Manship lists his other Aladdin record as much rarer, however he is so wrong with this one? that is also the opinion of top UK collector ROY GELDER,. most of his LPs are very rare and again with most JA records released in the UK the prices reflect that they are the rarest of all music that was released on a UK LP, so you can throw away that PINK FLYOD - ATOM HEART MOTHER LP. As for the Black Swan label again all records are rare some are nice some are rarer than most, but in my opinion not as good as the SUE or the Aladdin WI-611, i COULD ADD MUCH MORE TO THIS THREAD ON WILFRED EDWARDS, But see what direction it goes in, As a reminder to all collectors mick Smith will be in Wolves this weekend at the VIP RECORD FAIR, and as usual throughout the day he will be joined by top collectors PETE SMITH, ROY GELDOR DAVE WELDING, and yours truly, so any thing that's worth knowing about the UK SOUL SCENE will be there, also for those who are getting to like JA music Pete smith and myself should be able to help you, however I don't give values, only how rare, :rofl:Below are a few scans however, I have incleded a rare island record as a bench mark, it is my opinion that this record is much rarer than any of Jackeis DAVE

Soulsource Record Club, Your Record Of The Day Mid-Summer
HI ALL Well this is not the type of record that is associated with me? and to be honest I was going to play TROY KEYES - TWISTED WHEEL CLASSIC - LOVE EXPLOSIONS? But come across this bit of soul, while up in my loft, and I got a good feeling I should of left it up there?? However a good listen to it, and you may feel the vibe I got from it, in many ways it's a fine example of quality SOUL as TO VALUE ?? is it the same as other Webs stuff? but I doubt it, I feel that this is rare as I don't no anyone with it, but that may be that most people think it's rubbish? I hope not, ENJOY DAVE https://youtu.be/LeUpiz57xtk

Northern Soul 70's Fashion
HI ALL Having not made any postings to this thread, I thought I would put this on, only done yesterday, but in the pre punk style of the underground press of the early 7ts Kensington High St & Kensington market fashion, The IT stood for International Times and the girls face, is a iconic logo from that period, I have used it as a thanks to the CLASS of 72, However the original sticker of "you can get IT here" sells for over £100 to-day, DAVE

HI How did I no that someone would come back and say that old chestnut? sounds to me that you are a fan, so if you read my posting again, it states fans will give more?? however I also was talking in the past, not the present here & now, but as a fan I have a few bits about the place if you want them? cheap all collectable, I am being straight with you, over the years the dealers that I no have only asked me for 1 CLIFF & SHADOWS ITEM? and that is the rare HIS LAND LP, The last word on this is the ROCK & ROLL COLLECTORE ARE GETING THIN ON THE GROUND? as the GRIM REAPER gets ever closer? DAVE

Jj Jackson Uk Polydor 45, & Whee; C;assic
HI Yes it a well know record by dealers, why it exists, is to cash in on the success of the BEATLES who released double A sides. a sort of music industry joke! value, even though I have had 2 copies and they are what they are, no more than £5 but If you cut the dealers out of the picture, a Shads Fan will give much more? DAVE

Motown Covers?
HI ALL Some of you who collect UK RELEASES may also included UK covers of MOTOWN SONGS in the collection, some good ones and indeed some bad ones, A few years ago PETE SMITH listed quite a few in his excellent mag BEATIN RYTHEM, well worth a read, as there has never been anything that comes close to it, I have just been up the loft, and found a 1967 LP by Jackie Trent "once more with feeling" it contains no Northern big records, and has the frustrating "baby your putt-in me on" which is up-temp with to many slow breaks that ruin it, but the LP has the best female version of the 4 Tops "reach out, I'll be there" well danceable. however, is there a 45 of this track?? DAVE

HI ALL Can I say to both of you, for one of the best replies, to a posting since I joined SOULSOURCE, A really enjoyable read, it;s a shame that ROBERT does not write for RECORD COLLECTOR, looking at the POLYDOR 45, AGAIN! I am sure that it is only a collectors of UK released SOUL, would bother about such a small matter of the letter A&B on a 67 classic, but it is this stuff that gets a response. also collectors like MICK S get great pleasure searching for this sort of release, or equivalent, like the A on a red Atlantic copy of "sweet soul music" for example? thanks again for taking the time to reply, DAVE

Jj Jackson Uk Polydor 45, & Whee; C;assic
HI ALL UK POLYDOR 56718, was listed and issued as "but it's alright" as the A side twice as there is a MOJO copy, and "do the BOOGALOO" as the B SIDE, HOWEVER there are 2 POLYDOR RELEASES OF THE RECORD? As you can see my copy has the B listed as the A? so which one is the rarest, there are definitely 2 different copies

Soulsource Record Club, Your Record Of The Day Mid-Summer
HI ALL As it's Friday! here's a record that I got from MICK SMITH in 1972 after his trip to the USA, and to my ears, it is the best example of uptempo soul, over the years I have had this in every form, but it is the red & white Atlantic Demo that I got from Mick, my #1 fave instrumental DAVE https://youtu.be/55zbSXb7L7M

The Invitations - (Artist Of The Week)
HI I should of prepaird myself for this question, And I must point out again, it took me 6 months not 6 minutes, the first thing I did was to recognise the extent of the damage, and what was achievable, then I made note of what inks were used, and a guestimate of how many tears that have gone by, this is important, as most pen marks will fade in time & even seperate from certain paper (this is why legal documents must be filled in with a black pen) also inportant is the fact that on this job the paper would be wetted many times, as such making it pouress and in some case caurse the ink to come alive and become a blot? you need the same materials that any art restorationist would use, good set of brushes rubbers blotting paper sponges and then there are the aray of liqueds that are available, as the initial process that I have always used, is a bleaching stage, you would be suprised at the results you can get from a soak in warm water and a mild bleach, the best is MILTON, baby bottle cleaning stuff, although I have used full strength demestos neet? when taking on this sort of job, you should understand the basics and practice on other items first many times, also to remoe anything you must never brush at all, you are trying to lift the mark not make it worse? practice by always aiming straight down not at an angle, (example put a few drops of water on a surface, get a brush and aim it downwards so the tip rest on the water, it will act like a syringe and draw the fluid upwards, then repeat this on paper,) if you go on sites that teach water colouring you will soon get the idea, for the moment I have to stop. try a nd practice, rember this RED such as UK ATLANTICor PYE is very hard and I do not recomend anyone to try my way on such labels DAVE

Some Advice Please ?
HI ALL First thing is don't think that you have done anything wrong, far from it, you have made a purchase on the basis that you were to receive a product, the product you received was fake, as such you have protection, and pay-pal have a policy on this I'm sure, if the seller is in the UK trading standards also can help. However, as most of SOULSOURCE members spend a lot of money on records, it is a unwritten rule, to protect us all the seller should be NAMED & SHAMED, the way forward is simple to me, pay him a visit, but do not make threats in any way. get a money collector to make the visit, if the seller uses SOULSOURCE again name & shame, it does work? but it is down to you/ DAVE

The Invitations - (Artist Of The Week)
HI ALL And how I would love a copy of "skiing in the snow" back in my collection? however my copy of "what's wrong with my baby" cost me £5 from Mick Smith, it was covered with pen marks all over. It took me 6 months to restore to the state it is in to-day, the biggest restoration I have done, it's knowing when to stop, that's so important in restoration, as you only have 1 go, but in this case worth it? DAVE
