HI Yes it a well know record by dealers, why it exists, is to cash in on the success of the BEATLES who released double A sides. a sort of music industry joke! value, even though I have had 2 copies and they are what they are, no more than £5 but If you cut the dealers out of the picture, a Shads Fan will give much more? Motown Covers?
HI ALL Some of you who collect UK RELEASES may also included UK covers of MOTOWN SONGS in the collection, some good ones and indeed some bad ones, A few years ago PETE SMITH listed quite a few in his excellent mag BEATIN RYTHEM, well worth a read, as there has never been anything that comes close to it, I have just been up the loft, and found a 1967 LP by Jackie Trent "once more with feeling" it contains no Northern big records, and has the frustrating "baby your putt-in me on" which is up-temp with to many slow breaks that ruin it, but the LP has the best female version of the 4 Tops "reach out, I'll be there" well danceable. however, is there a 45 of this track?? HI ALL Can I say to both of you, for one of the best replies, to a posting since I joined SOULSOURCE, A really enjoyable read, it;s a shame that ROBERT does not write for RECORD COLLECTOR, looking at the POLYDOR 45, AGAIN! I am sure that it is only a collectors of UK released SOUL, would bother about such a small matter of the letter A&B on a 67 classic, but it is this stuff that gets a response. also collectors like MICK S get great pleasure searching for this sort of release, or equivalent, like the A on a red Atlantic copy of "sweet soul music" for example? thanks again for taking the time to reply, DAVE

HI ALL UK POLYDOR 56718, was listed and issued as "but it's alright" as the A side twice as there is a MOJO copy, and "do the BOOGALOO" as the B SIDE, HOWEVER there are 2 POLYDOR RELEASES OF THE RECORD? As you can see my copy has the B listed as the A? so which one is the rarest, there are definitely 2 different copies

HI ALL, Over the last few years, while writing "more than skin deep",I always intended to follow it up, with some sort of play? but i have had a rethink and have decided to try this approach, so I will introduce the concept tonight, based on my Alta ego adventures, if it works it will make good telly, if you have a character for inclusion be my guest? Soulsource Record Club, Your Record Of The Day Mid-Summer
HI ALL As it's Friday! here's a record that I got from MICK SMITH in 1972 after his trip to the USA, and to my ears, it is the best example of uptempo soul, over the years I have had this in every form, but it is the red & white Atlantic Demo that I got from Mick, my #1 fave instrumental DAVE https://youtu.be/55zbSXb7L7M

The Invitations - (Artist Of The Week)
HI I should of prepaird myself for this question, And I must point out again, it took me 6 months not 6 minutes, the first thing I did was to recognise the extent of the damage, and what was achievable, then I made note of what inks were used, and a guestimate of how many tears that have gone by, this is important, as most pen marks will fade in time & even seperate from certain paper (this is why legal documents must be filled in with a black pen) also inportant is the fact that on this job the paper would be wetted many times, as such making it pouress and in some case caurse the ink to come alive and become a blot? you need the same materials that any art restorationist would use, good set of brushes rubbers blotting paper sponges and then there are the aray of liqueds that are available, as the initial process that I have always used, is a bleaching stage, you would be suprised at the results you can get from a soak in warm water and a mild bleach, the best is MILTON, baby bottle cleaning stuff, although I have used full strength demestos neet? when taking on this sort of job, you should understand the basics and practice on other items first many times, also to remoe anything you must never brush at all, you are trying to lift the mark not make it worse? practice by always aiming straight down not at an angle, (example put a few drops of water on a surface, get a brush and aim it downwards so the tip rest on the water, it will act like a syringe and draw the fluid upwards, then repeat this on paper,) if you go on sites that teach water colouring you will soon get the idea, for the moment I have to stop. try a nd practice, rember this RED such as UK ATLANTICor PYE is very hard and I do not recomend anyone to try my way on such labels DAVE

Some Advice Please ?
HI ALL First thing is don't think that you have done anything wrong, far from it, you have made a purchase on the basis that you were to receive a product, the product you received was fake, as such you have protection, and pay-pal have a policy on this I'm sure, if the seller is in the UK trading standards also can help. However, as most of SOULSOURCE members spend a lot of money on records, it is a unwritten rule, to protect us all the seller should be NAMED & SHAMED, the way forward is simple to me, pay him a visit, but do not make threats in any way. get a money collector to make the visit, if the seller uses SOULSOURCE again name & shame, it does work? but it is down to you/ DAVE

The Invitations - (Artist Of The Week)
HI ALL And how I would love a copy of "skiing in the snow" back in my collection? however my copy of "what's wrong with my baby" cost me £5 from Mick Smith, it was covered with pen marks all over. It took me 6 months to restore to the state it is in to-day, the biggest restoration I have done, it's knowing when to stop, that's so important in restoration, as you only have 1 go, but in this case worth it? Rca Custom Press - Grapevine Label
HI ALL......I have had a rethink about this subject, and it is clear that there are more than 5 as stated, and like the First Choice "this is the house" PYE INT, there is no reason that the unreleased stuff from the catalogue, was not promoted at the time? I do also think that they are worth more than the old EMO DISC as I stated, this change of mind is due to the fact that they are all 100% proper, and the fact that they are on RCA CUSTOM PRESS, am I right in saying that there are a couple of EDDIE HOLMAN sides on RCA CUSTOM also BETTY BOO? of course we could ask the Scotchman John Anderson or indeed Richard, as well as Pete but he was quick to dismiss them, why I don't no as he wrote a excellent review of the label? Toady boy any thing you say is relevant to me, even if it's an elephant to you mate And finaly perhaps my favourate DISCO RECORD OH! YEH DAVE DOUBLE DEX THE MEMPHIS HORNS CLASSIC?

Rca Custom Press - Grapevine Label
HI PETE I totally agree, some people would say they are as good as the EMI DISCS of the 72-74 period, However as you are aware these do have a provenance that attaches them to Wigan, and I am sure that if the unreleased Grapevines come up on RCA CUSTOM, the completest would have to have them, don't you think? in fact these should belong in a collection, I have most Grapevines never got round to finishjng the run? only 8 short got all but to of the rarest DAVE

HI ALL...I WAS LOOKING AT RANKONG JOHNNY BOYS AUCTION WHEN......... On Johns auction, he has an acetate by Al Williams, in the blurb that follows he Say's that it is a rare opportunity and this us the 1st time he has listed a pre release, very true, however as I have 2 other titles on RCA CUSTOM, i was wondering what the value will be, what John fails to mention, is the very small numbers of grapevine acetates there are, I was told only 5 out of 43+ had custom release, with the ALL WILLIAMS on JM AUCTION & my 2, what are the others, also I was informed, that Richard only handed these records to the very few selected top DJ? my 2 were Richards own copies, that were played at the CASINO. I have a strong feeling on my water that the Al Williams is also Richards, but I could be wrong. Does any other titles apart from the 3, in the hands of SOULSOURCE MEMBERS, If so can they let me no what they are, To my way of thinking these are not just acetates, but also very rare memorabilia DAVE K

Best Collection Ever? In Your Opinion
HI ALL....This is one of the hardest questions, that has been put forward in the few years that I have been on SOULSOURCE,......Why? well over the many years I have been collecting SOUL, there has always been the person who has the records that I have wanted and even lusted over, but the reality would mean that even if I had the money, records like the Billy Harner instrumental would not be available for many years to come, However in saying that I have been very fortunate to have known the people who do own the top records, and have helped many to build decent collections of rare soul, In the early days the meeting of John Wilkinson (Notts) 70 71 John was a WHEELITE and collector for 6 months his influence on me has lasted to this day, although I was a keen collector of soul, buying my records at CONTEMPOS in Hannaway St W1, It was John who made me appreciate the pleasure of finding & paying 6d for Chubby Checkers "at the Discotheque" like finding GOLD, As I started to get the rare soul collecting bug, the situation in England was this, most records were hard to find, so the Junk shop was the hub of the collecting scene, as most junk shops got there stuff from house clearances, the second source for me was the discovery of a warehouse that was stuffed full of records 45s & LPs, and in with the 1000s of records, were the first imports that I come across, within a few weeks I had a decent MOTOWN collection, with artists like Earl Van Dyke, Bobby Taylor, Spinners, Debbie Dean, Vows, Ones & so on, In 1972, the Record Collecting Bug had become infectious, and as such, it was this year that started my serendipitous travels into collecting RARE SOUL as an obsessive, meeting many like minded individuals. The best collectors are to many to name but, I will name a few, Hammy & Tony Warret, Andy Spencer and more who I generalise when I call them Bedford Boys as Andy not from Bedford, Top Collectors that I never competed against as their collections and knowledge was staggering, Ian Levine bought anything and everything that he did not no, and without doubt the #1 collector in 73, John Manship, had a box of R&W Motown in a box at the top of his base along with every thing else, Ady Crosdale top collector and SAGE, His Motown collection hit me so hard, that I sold my collection to a Cambridge dealer, as ADY had every thing, and I mean everything, However it is my Mentor Mick Smith, who had the best collection of them all, his UK SOUL COLLECTION is the #1 in the world. His knowledge of the UK soul Scene is so Deep, as he is a true pioneer of the scene, and has discovered many top tunes, and his US COLLECTION is also one of the best, he is know as Mr British so with out question it is MICK SMITHS Collection, that I would say is the best, & Ady C #2 with Butch #3 I should have had a far better collection than I have but wasted my time taking chemicals???
