  1. Got to agree with Chalky, this top drawer, i also have the version by Aesops Fables but prefer this one. Pablo used to play it back in the day.
  2. Just recieved these three collection fillers, all issues; Ruby Winters - In the middle of a heartache - Diamond Ruby Winters - We're living to give - Diamond Ruby Winters - Swwetheart things - Diamond Hmmmm....bit of a theme goin on here, ITMOAH is probably one of my all time fave mid temo sides, so was really chuffed to get it and decided to pick up the other two as they were the right price
  3. I agree Mark, very strange set up, the dance floor was actually the lobby of the cinema, complete with huge statues, ans i watched the Thunderbirds movie with Keb and hundreds of other crazed soulies all singing the theme tune!!!! Only went the once, couldn't stand bumping into a big old Lion all night if memory serves (which it often doesn't)
  4. just found this thread, but was always into the modern stuff from starting out a Yate, then through Stafford etc etc, i remember doing a spot at Mick Godfrey's inaugural (and only) Modern Soul Allnighter. I dragged my travelling buddy Mark Oliver (the other Mark from Gloucester) with me, and his comments were, "much better than i had expected" but everything was great back then!!
  5. "Really like the 12" version of "Summertime" by High Frequency" I have a REALLY soulful version of this on 12" by Curtis Hairston, the backing is very similar but his deep vocals swing it for me every time.
  6. I am luckey enough to be heading for New york tomorrow morning for a rare business meeting. I'm only there for two days, most of which is taken up with Business. In the couple of hours i have to myself, can anyone point me in the direction of: a) second hand recored store i can mooch through. new vinyl record store i might pick up some nice modern soul cuts from. No intention of going in and trying to buy out anyones stock, if i spend more than £100 - £150 the wife i'll separate me from me most precious items!!!

I too went straight onto GEMM and grabbed a copy of this, blind based on reading comments on here. I also snagged a copy of the Artisics thing that Mark Bicknell wrote about in his bedroom post. Got it a couple of weeks ago and boy, what a fantastic double sider it is.....cheers Mark, keep dropping the tips on the cheaper stuff.
  8. I was gutted to have missed one on ebay a couple of weeks ago, couldn't type my final bid in quick enough before the auction ended. Think it went for $150 ish. I'm sure people have some software that tells them what the current high bidder will go up to so they can chip in and beat it with 30 seconds to go! Manship has one for £300 but i can't afford that!!!
  9. Two obvious ones to me are the Benny Spellman tracks: Fortune Teller and This is for you
  10. Thanks guy's i'll let you know how i get on, and to think i was on my way to the local Steam Fair this weekend gash!!!!
  11. Help, Before i start to bake some vynal cakes in the oven, does anyone have a half reliable method for taking warps out of records?

A devastating piece of news, i can't begin to count the ridiculous weekends that started on thursday and ended on tuesday, that i spent with Ozz and Ant et al back in the 80's. Mark.

Just got an ipod mini as a present. As well as putting all my tunes on it, can anyone point me in the direction of a couple of sites where i can download some MP3s to listen to?
  14. Pat Peterson or some variation. Think it's on 123. I've got one at home, not bad version and can't afford Pat and Neurotics anyway

The flipside of "Big City Lights" is a fairly decent Northern Mover called "you Got Everything", i played it out a couple of times back in the day, I'm sure it got a few other plays from other DJ's too.
  19. The usual way is that say 10 people create 10 copies of their CD and then send one each to the others. On the content front i have been collecting for 20 years (not bought much in the last 10) and as it turned out my modern xover taste seemed more future proofed than my 60's stuff. So consequently i have quite a few of the big modern tracks and loads of also rans. I have a /beverly and duane LP somewhere, what is the track you specifically wanted?
  20. I'm up for that, does it all have to be 80's onwards or can we go back a bit too?
  21. The Hed Kandi Stereo Sushi range of CDs is great imho.
  22. I have Brianstorm Lovin is really My Game Tabu Evlynn Champaign King Shame RCA And i do have a copy of the Tony Middleton Spanish Maiden 12", not an extended mix though!
  23. Ray Pollard was definately in Ghostbusters, that was from the horses mouth, i had the good fortune to meet him on a trip to New York with Adey Pierce nearly 20 years ago now.
  24. Thanks Paul, look ofrward to seeing the letter.
  25. I have a few 7" white labels that i picked up back in the day. Don't know whether any of them made it to issue, and there is no info that i can recall on the records apart from the artist and title. If anyone can shed some light on them i would be most grateful, i.e. did they get a release, what label played out etc. Mel Carter Love Test Shelly Pearse I Need You Too Much Mark IV Rainy Days All are early 80's from the sound of them, i have had them for at least 15 years.
