  1. Just had a listen to Moon People and I'm sure you're right. The Luis Aviles is extremely similar though.
  2. The brass stabs are sampled from Luis Aviles & The Latin Blues Band "(I'll Be A) Happy Man"on SPEED: https://www.shingaling.com/LuisAviles&T...BeAHappyMan.mp3 The tune also samples The Soul Seven's "Cissy's Thang" on SOULTEX: https://www.funk45.com/rm/soul_seven_-_the_...#39;s_thang.ram
  3. I just remembered some "sales talk" on one of your old lists from about 5 years ago... I actually still have it here somewhere... ah, found it: DANNY HUNT - WHAT'S HAPPENING TO OUR LOVE AFAIR - DYNAMITE EX- £5 LARRY HOUSTON - LET'S SPEND SOME TIME TOGETHER - HFMP EX £5 No wonder Wigan was dying on it's feet when this crap was being played. Aswith most 70's soul records, this and the one above it ought to be melteddown into something useful. Top stuff. I think I bought both of those records from you from that list and that's probably why I remember it. Love that Danny Hunt 45, recently dug it out again and can't stop playing it.
  4. WHAT!? Still no mention of Larry Houston or Danny Hunt...

If you get offered two copies of these... please, PM me.
  6. Seems to be £10-£20 on eBay. Levine did win out in the end on this one it seems... He was selling them for £20 each as new releases a couple of years back as well. Which is a bit much, to put it mildly.
  7. As i mentioned earlier, I was going to put my copy of the EP containing the Four Tops version of "Helpless" on eBay. It's up there now, check it out if you feel like it: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=230024273071

  9. I've got it on a regular Atlantic France 45 with a picture sleeve. "Watermelon Man" can be found on the flipside. A bit rare, I think. Will be eBaying it soon.
  10. Suppose you mean his "Don't Send Me Away"? Haven't ever really thought of it as "poppy", but I guess you're right. How about Garfield's "Let's Turn In Early" on Gimme Five? Pulled that one out yesterday and what a lovely ballad. Anyone wanna trade their 7" of that one for my 12"? PM me if so.
  11. Do you mean that those tunes are album-only cuts? Or that you sourced them from the LPs? I don't know many of them, but it looks very nice! As far as I know, these are also available as 7"s: 1. Kalyan - Let Me Love You One More Time - Rca (1981) 4. C.M. Lord - I'm happy That Love Has Found You - Rca (1981) 5. Denise Lasalle - I'm Tripping On You - Mca (1981) 11. Bobby Thurston - Very Last Drop - Prelude (1981) 14. Mighty Fire - Sweet Fire - Elektra (1981) 17. Main Ingredient - An Evening Of Love - Rca (1981) Love that Main Ingredient tune!
  12. SUPERB version!!! Was this ever released by Don Bryant? I only know the Lee Rogers version which is ace as well.

Good tune. But it's closer to £10-£15 really. A google search which I just did threw up at least 3 potential copies for sale.

    What a tune!!!

About £5, but usually sells for less. I'm a big fan of his "I Just Found Out" on JANUS. A bit depressing but fantastic. https://www.shingaling.com/FreddieHughes-IJustFoundOut.mp3
  16. This is what the reissue looks like:
  17. I've also got a white demo and sold my spare issue copy about six months ago. After having been after a copy for YEARS, I first bought the issue copy for £100, then won the demo copy on eBay in January 2006 for $34. Promptly managed to re-sell the issue copy for £150 so a good deal in the end as I got some money "back". It's an extremely hard record to find and is consistently undervalued. The flipside "Make Your Move" is very gritty and closer to garage rock than soul in my opinion and might be collected by the garage scene, I don't know. But I rather think that it's genuinely rare and that's why it's so hard to find. The 70s styrene reissue incorrectly states the title as "You're Number 1" while the original has got it down as "Your Number 1". Top, top tune. Scans below of both the issue and demo copies:

He can't possibly have been serious when uttering those words. Not that it's a particularly bad record, but if being the BEST 70S RECORD OF ALL TIME it has got quite a lot to live up to, and it doesn't. In my opinion etc.
  19. I agree. It's incredibly poor in my opinion. But I still wouldn't mind those "extra" £160...
  20. Bloody hell. I struggled for months to sell my copy on one of these forums, dropped the price over a couple of weeks, and finally let it go for £40. This was September 2004. Oh well.
  21. Thought that as well. Payed $3 so no worries though. I do however suspect that is a much earlier press than from a couple of years back. That sound and vinyl quality can not be had these days when pressing 45s.
  22. Just got this in the mail from the US. Pressed on heavy 60s vinyl. Absolutely superb sound quality. How did these two tunes, originally released on Atco (Lenny O'Henry) and Decca (Leon Haywood), end up on CRA JON? Bootleg? Original? Second pressing? Made for the beach scene? Does anyone know anything? Leon is from 1967, Lenny was first released 1964 BUT was re-released in 1967 on Atco again. Coincidence? Did these tunes suddenly get popular in 1967.

Did two 45s on Warner Bros in 1969: Cajun Hart - Got To Find A Way / Lover's Prayer - WARNER BROS. 7258 Cajun Hart - Big City / The Whole World Is Watching - WARNER BROS. 7325 I haven't heard the "other" one.
  24. Yes, that's the one, the other side has got "Standing In The Shadows Of Love" and "Since You've Been Gone". An EP indeed, but seems to be the only 7" release of "Helpless".
