I bought a copy last year with the Powertree promotional copy sticker on both sides. Funnily enough it came from Belgium!!
  4. I saw a Danny Moore yellow demo in a box the other week and assumed it was a boot. Were the boots yellow demos?
  5. Andy I think a lot of people are happy to send cash without adding their name to a "roll of honour" as it were. I'll bet that there are a lot of people who have used and appreciate Soulclub that have sent money but don't feel the need to advertise it on here. What would be a help would be if Atom could keep us informed as to the state of play and then if there is a short fall I'm sure there would be plenty of us who would dip into our pockets a 2nd time. Mark
  6. I think this is an important point Mike, that you have invited people to become involved in a responsible (mostly ) manner. The sites that have struggled or dissapeared over the last few years such as KTF downloads, Soulclub, Northern soul music etc have all suffered apparently due to the cost of running the sites and also the time they require. I'm sure if people were aware of problems beforehand there would be no shortage of people willing to help out financially or with their time. Since joining the site I have learned loads and also made some very good friends. Thanks for the great job you've done. Mark
  7. Brett, Top show mate. Great selection of tunes right across the board. Thanks very much. Mark
  8. Always like to finish with something soulful, so its usually: Pearl Dowdell - Its All Over -Saadia or Cynthia & The Imaginery Three - Thats What I Am - Big Hit
  9. "I have to, 'cos I've only had 3 loves in my life, Derby County, Soul music and Sue, in that order, so you see why I've got to go home for a fortnight?". She didn't quite kill me, but she - and mates - still ram it down my throat. But she's No. 1 now - only until we get rid of them on the board at Pride Park.
  10. So have you got any good tips on setting up cartridges Stuart. I have a decent system and I change my stylus fairly regularly ( at least once a year...lol) but when I get a record that looks mint, jumping it drives me mad and I have wondered if its the cartridge or something else in the set up!! Any tips would be appreciated, thanks. Mark

I've just had an email supposedly from Paypal stating that my account has been suspended due to multiple logins and asking me to confirm my password and login details. Theres a link https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run It all looks very proper but you can always tell if its a scam because if you click on any of the link buttons they don't work. They are blanks and don't take you anywhere. Anytime you get anything like this forward it to spoof@paypal.com Their security will investigate it for you. Mark
  13. The Al Greene track is very good but can't remember when last heard it played out. I picked up a green and white Stateside demo of it about 10 years ago, if you get behind the record Col my copy will soon be worth a tenner, won't it?
  14. Started in 73 but by the time I got married in the early eighties was starting to get fed up with some of the garbage being played. I stopped going away and just did the occasional local oldies do. Around 1993 I got talked into going to a Friday night at Bretby and it was like a brand new beginning. The quality of music being played by Chris Anderton (how could someone so young be so knowledgeable), Steve Smith, and others was fantastic. They were so open minded, anything went as long as the quality was good. Had some good nights since but I'll never forget those Bretby Friday nights.
  15. In reply to that just listen to I'll be Right There. Up there with the very best the Temps could offer, and I'm a major Temps/6ts stuff fan. link
  16. should have been in wants, sorry :fool:
  17. I've not got one in my sales box Ged but I know someone who has one. I also know someone who told me that he sold one recently and the price he said he got for it was well above what I was expecting. So was just wondering if what he got was inline with what the educated on here think its worth. He sold his private, not on an auction.
  18. Out of interest whats the value of "Because of My Heart" nowadays on Fairmount?
  19. Hi, anyone got a copy of Neil Reed - Not as beautiful as you on Now Then records that they want to sell or trade? Anyone can help please PM or email me at mormar44@btopenworld.com Thanks Mark
  20. Roger I think the difference is that at the big events, many people will have travelled a long way expecting to hear rare sounds played on original vinyl. I think Mark B's "If you've not got it don't play it" is more relevant to the big events than to the smaller local do's. I don't think punters at those events care what medium the music comes from but I reckon if you asked around at the large events people assume that the sounds are being played from vinyl. As you say a DJ on this scene builds a reputation over the years from playing quality music on vinyl. If you were on at Kings Hall and played Margaret Little I'd assume that you had a copy, if I found that you had been playing it from a cd then I'd be dissapointed and your reputation would have gone down for me pesonally. IMHO there is a difference between the standards that people expect at a big event (where people travel) than there is at a local do run by people who just want to provide a good time for people who are out for a dance and drink close to home on a Saturday night. Mark
  21. When I am occasionally asked to DJ I always use original vinyl. I can see that some small local venues will use cd's and if they are not hiding the fact then I don't have a problem with it. These are not rare soul events more like good night out events. What I do object to are "big name DJ's" at the big all nighters and weekenders (money spinning 600 plus people events) playing off cd's. I think this is well out of order and they should be named and shamed. Mark

Just been offered a Jimmy Ricks "Oh What A Feeling" on a Festival multi coloured demo. Anyone got any idea on what the going rate should be nowadays? Thanks
  24. Could be, but I've gotta sell em first and you know what a tite bunch of buggers they are on soul-source !! Rumour has it that there's more chance of getting Rob Thomas to smile than there is of getting them buggers to pay a fair price!!
